Creating and Using a Custom Blended Foundation

A Guide to Utilizing Creating a Custom Blend Foundation

In recent months, several fashion magazines have had beauty section interviews with celebrity make-up artists that sing the praises of blending foundation to create a customized shade that can suit a person's own unique skin tone better than a singular number foundation from the drugstore. While some may consider this groundbreaking, most women who wear make-up on a regular basis have been blending foundations for decades for various reasons. Each reason has a few easy-to-follow tips for best results.

Blending Foundations Helps Transition from Summer to Winter and Back Again

I have a fair complexion that darkens up slightly in the summer because of time spent outdoors. By late spring my winter foundation begins to wash out my face. Any woman with a borderline skin tone experiences the same thing. While at the epoch of summer and winter one foundation color may be adequate, it is necessary to work your way into these tones gradually as your skin isn't going to go from light beige to medium beige overnight. To combat drastic changes in the spring and summer months, as soon as the weather begins to warm, begin to add a small dollop of a darker foundation to your lighter and blend accordingly. Gradually increase the dark make-up until you have filtered out the lighter shade altogether.

Blending Foundations Can Also Be Done on the Skin

While the previous method yields stellar results, you can also use blended foundations to highlight certain facial features. I do this by utilizing my darker foundation (only gradually darker, not drastic) much as I would a bronzer and use it on the upper portions of the cheek, the forehead, and the mid-portion of the chin. Apply this on top of your lighter shade and then use a third make-up sponge for the actual blending and reserve this sponge for blending in the future to achieve the best results.

Blending Foundations Helps You Look Flawless

The main thing I like about blending foundations is that it gives a woman a look that is a bit more flawless than using one foundation shade. By getting as close to a match for your regular skin tone as possible, you are going to see better results when it comes to covering blemishes and creating an even skin tone. A bonus is that your coverage is going to look exceedingly natural.

The main thing to remember when blending foundations is to have fun and experiment. There is no penalty for getting your blend wrong the first time; merely wipe it off and start over with a clean, fresh face.
