Naked Wall Remedy
There is probably nothing quite as bad as empty white walls to someone who hates white walls but has a landlord who equates painting walls as a deadly sin. Assuming that fine art is out of your budget (definitely costs more than 20 bucks on average!), it is time to get creative.
Head over to your local dollar discount establishment (where everything truly is only a dollar) and head straight for the photo frames. What you should be looking for are the largest (to cover more wall space) wood frames they stock and grab at least six. It doesn't matter what they look like, the most important thing is that they are wood.
Now, if you happen to hoard fabric the way that I do, or if you have some old clothing with interesting prints that you can cut up, you can skip this step completely. For the rest of you, stop by a fabric or craft store on your way home and buy enough fabric to cover all of your frames (I would get at least 2 yards), or a flat twin sheet from any big box store.
Frame
FabricOnce home, disassemble your frames (just the layers silly, not the frame itself). Find another use for the glass because we won't be using it here. Spread out your fabric face down, and position your frames with at least four inches between them. At this point, if your fabric has an interesting pattern, move your frames around until you capture the parts of the pattern you like best.
Frame
FabricNow, cut your fabric around the frames making sure to leave at least 2 inches extra on all sides. Fold your fabric over the back of the frame and staple, hot glue, or otherwise affix your fabric to the frame. Trim any excess fabric, flip over, and voila! Cover each frame in the same manner, group in a pleasing fashion and hang on the wall. Should your budget be more than twenty dollars, feel free to cover an entire wall in the same manner!
