Creation Versus Evolution

Michael Allen

Two theories go neck to neck, and all others are just offspring of those two. In each theory, a person has to give a little in order for either to be conceivable. There is at least one issue involved whether this world evolved or was created by a divine being.

In evolution, you have to be able to give that something came out of nothing. Darwin's theory of evolution applied to a notion that we all came from one common ancestor. A theory I find both valuable and useful. But, it does not reach back into the beginning and tell us how anything came to be.

There has to be a start to all of this. From nothing comes something. What happened? Hot air mixes with cool, humid air and we have an electrical discharge? Electrical discharges all over the great expanse of nothingness leave off particles that eventually find each other? They start to form a mass that we will one day call earth.

It almost makes sense. The only problem is that oxygen is an element and had to come from somewhere. The same with humidity, as well as the fact that heat is also a substance that can be formed in different ways from the combinations of different elements. But, it can't just create itself either. So, what was it that happened to bring absolute nothingness into being?

In creation, you have to be able to give that a divine presence called the world into being. From nothing came something because a divine being had the power to bring it to life. When most people think of God, they see a man. But, a presence is more conceivable when considering a great expanse of nothingness with a divine being there to control the beginning of life.

Thirty years ago, I was told that the entire world would be able to watch an event unfold at the same time. I laughed hysterically because I thought of the other side of the world. First of all, there is an entire earth between us blocking them from my view. A broadcast was possible then. So, it was becoming more believable that one day the entire world would be able to witness an event unfold at the same time. But, there were factors to overcome like the time difference and the reach of television throughout the world.

Today, neither of those two factors are a hindrance. A person with a smartphone that has a camera can broadcast what they are viewing on the internet and the entire world can watch…at the exact same time. It's literally amazing what we have accomplished just in those past thirty years.

We have done what was once unimaginable. In many parts of our lives, we have created the tools and resources that we need, but at one time couldn't even conceive. This makes us a family. It brings us together in at least one common way. We love to create!

Our moral compass points us in the direction where we try to make our world a better place than it was when we came. We lose focus of that every once in awhile. But, we try! We are not perfect. But, take a grand view of the world and what we are trying to accomplish. You'll see the good. You'll see everything that we have created and in that, you'll see evidence that we are indeed created in the likeness of our father.
