Decorating your bedroom can be a great way to give your self a tranquil retreat, yet so many people neglect this room. If decorating your bedroom seems like an overwhelming task, you might want to take it easy and make small changes over a period of time instead of one huge change.
Color
Psychologists have been studying the effects of color on people for many years and have concluded that the effect of color on a persons mind is individual and perceptual. With this is mind, you should start by choosing the colors that you feel most comfortable with. The ones in which you will find the greatest contentment. The bedroom is supposed to be the most at ease, so it is important that you plan out your color scheme to create maximum relaxation, for you.
Maybe you want to choose a color that coordinates with your existing décor, or maybe you decide to have an all white or ivory color theme in your room. If so, you might want to add some pastel colored accents such as curtains, pillows, lampshades, etc. Scented pillows can add a splash of color and they can give a wonderful mood altering scent. Pillows not only can add color but a variety of textures also.
Just remember to keep continuity in the color scheme of your room. Even if you use the same color, because you had paint left over, a fresh coat reinvigorates the room and makes it look cleaner, newer.
Walls
One vital thing to consider when decorating your bedroom is what you put on the walls. Walls enclose the home, giving a thematic impression. No matter how much money you have, you can create a great look in your bedroom with a few simple changes such as painting the walls and coordinating your bedding and pillows to reflect a certain theme. Try applying a hand painted mural or hanging some vintage prints on your walls to really bring out the zing in your design theme. Paneling or wood plank walls are another option that is both durable and versatile for a bedroom.
Painting or staining the molding around the window to match or contrast with the walls will give the window an entirely new look. Or, you can borrow from one of the colors in the bedding and paint the walls a solid shade. If your walls are white, you could find some black and white posters to hang on them. Another option is borders, they can be placed at the very top of the walls or you could put them around the middle, to create a more old fashioned and elegant look. If your walls are empty, you've got to get to work to populate them
Ideas
Painting is one of the easiest bedroom decorating ideas and most affordable ways to transform your haven. This is an area where your decorating ideas, personal tastes, and creativity can really shine through. Try to prepare an outline of how you want your room to look, while doing so ideas will just start popping into your head.
Here are a few to help get your creative juices flowing. Use decorative curtains or valances, these work very well as a means to decorate the windows and also other openings. Plants, a plant can greatly add to the mood of a space. A lampshade that is made of semitransparent cloth can add some wonderful ambience to the interior space. Another great idea is to create a private area by adding a free standing or wooden partition.
You can always come up with plenty of good and creative ideas. Try looking in magazines, on television, in movies, and even in store displays and catalogs for inspiration. Your biggest problems might not be finding ideas, it might be narrowing down what you want from a list of things you like. And if all else fails, you can always hire a designer. Just give them a general idea of what you want, and they will design something to fit the space you have, with the look that you are going for. Get creative with your Bedroom decorating and just have fun with it.
