Creative Ceiling Designs for a Dining Room

Scott Kessman

If you are interested in some new ideas in dining room ceiling design then the following thoughts may be useful for matching your décor. The dining room is often one place in the house where people are invited to spend time with you over a meal, and having the ceiling match the décor of the room will add to the atmosphere. One of these ideas is the tray ceiling design which incorporates the idea of an upside down tray. This idea gives the impression of a high ceiling with low sides which can be enhanced with crown moldings around the edges and a beautiful light and medallion in the center. The moldings can be painted in different colors to the ceiling which helps to accentuate the look. There are many ideas which can be used to add to the atmosphere of this type of ceiling.

Another idea for dining room ceiling designs is the use of wooden planks or beams. These can be added in a number of ways, such as covering the complete ceiling with wooden planks which adds a beautiful rich warm texture to the room. Adding timber beams across the ceiling at intervals with the areas in between being painted a lighter color, and the addition of a matching light for an exposed beam ceiling can also add to the atmosphere of the room. There is also the cathedral ceiling frame with added skylights for another idea. The coffered ceiling is a further thought which incorporates square or polygonal panels situated on the ceiling which are arranged to look very decorative. The coffers or square and rectangle blocks are often painted to match the color of the décor in the room while the sections of the ceiling in between are done in a contrasting color which matches the look of the room.

A false ceiling is yet another idea for a dining room ceiling design. This is a suspended or dropped ceiling, which is actually a secondary ceiling that hangs below the real ceiling. This type of design has advantages and disadvantages. As an advantage the false ceiling has a space between it and the real ceiling where wires and holes can be hidden if any are present, the disadvantages lead to reduced headroom because the false ceiling is much lower than the normal ceiling height. The false ceiling can make a lovely addition to a dining room when it is done with taste and the right design to match the room. There are many other ideas for dining room ceiling designs and some of these are the dome ceiling, the textured ceiling, and the use of Plaster of Paris. Any of these might suit the dining room of a house and finding the correct one can add to the right atmosphere when dining with family, friends or entertaining others.
