Easy Craft Idea: Make an Easy Mosaic
Items needed for this easy craft idea may include cardstock, light colored fleece or similar fabric, tiles and iron-on paper.
A typical mosaic is an image made from smaller images or colors cut out of glass or ceramic. However, you can make a mosaic out of any image, using almost any material. This easy craft idea turns your favorite picture into a creative mosaic. There are a couple of ways to make a mosaic. The first method uses cardstock. Adjust your digital photo to the size that you want your mosaic to be. Then, simply print your image onto the white cardstock. Cut the cardstock into evenly shaped small squares and affix to another piece of cardstock, allowing for an even amount of space between each square. Frame. If you have Photoshop, another idea is to convert your image to a mosaic image (which is basically a pixilated image). Click HERE for an easy tutorial. Then print your pixilated image onto iron-on paper. Iron onto a sturdy piece of fabric that won't fray when cut, such as fleece, creating an instant fabric mosaic that can framed or left as is. Another idea is to cut each square within the image and affix to the surface of your choice, such as another piece of fabric, poster board or wood.
The third mosaic craft idea is a little more complicated and more costly, but allows you to create a mosaic of any size, using tiles. Convert the image in Photoshop, but reduce the colors involved (the more colors in your pixilated image, the more colored tiles or paint you will need to match these up later). Print out the pixilated image (in color) and draw grid lines on it, separating each individual square (or pixel). These will correspond with the grid lines that you will draw on your surface (such as your kitchen counter or bathroom wall). Using the appropriate colored tiles, or by painting each tile the corresponding color, you can create a mosaic of your picture.
Easy Craft Idea: Make a Puzzle
Another easy craft idea is to turn your favorite picture into a fun puzzle. Print your digital 8 by 11 image onto a piece of paper. Glue to an evenly shaped piece of cardboard using a ruler to ensure that you have removed all of the air bubbles. Using a straight razor or reciprocating saw, cut into shapes.
