Creative Dinner Invitations

Birthdays, Themes, and Fun Invitations

Alex Zimmerman
If you are having a get together, there are many key decisions to make, in addition to what to make, where to have it and who to invite. There is the question of how to invite them. What will your invitation look like?

Invitations for a Large Family Dinner

Materials needed:

A computer

The internet

Photo editing software

Photos of the person

When my grandmother turned 80 we had a huge birthday party for her, there were well over forty guests. We wanted the card to be personal, but we also didn't want to go through the trouble of hand making all of the cards. We decided to order the cards online. I designed the invitations myself, the first thing you want to do is open up a blank document in your editing software. I used Photoshop Elements. Make your document size 4.25" X 5.5" add pictures of the person the party is for on the front of the card. Use another document the same size for the inside, write your invitation message. Go to http://www.cafepress.com/cp/customize/product.aspx?clear=true&no=195 and sign up to design your own note cards. These cards are the perfect size for invitations, and cost 1.05 apiece.

Chinese Restaurant Dinner Party Invitations

Materials Needed-

Small Chinese takeout containers

Silver sharpie marker

Custom Fortune Cookies

Computer

The internet

Candy

This invitation is a lot of fun. Small empty Chinese Takeout containers can be purchased easily at craft stores in a variety of colors. Purchase these containers as your invitations. On the outside of the box write the name of the person you are inviting in Sharpie. Fill the inside of the box half way with your favorite candy, or small favors. Also include a personalized fortune cookie that says, "You will soon attend a dinner party at "location", on "date" at "time" "Cookies like these can be ordered online at websites such as this https://www.e-fortunecookie.com/ . If you don't feel like ordering the cookie, just include a regular fortune cookie and a separate piece of cardstock with the location date and time printed on it.

Having Dinner and Drinks

For this simple but fun idea you will need

Cardboard Coasters

Sharpie

Collect or purchase coasters, preferably one sided. Use the sharpie to write down the date, location and time, also write that they should bring the coaster to the party. On the front put the person's name. Not only will these invitations be unique, when your guests bring them to the party, everyone will know whose drink is whose!

Cleaver dinner invitations can be easily accomplished. An important thing to keep in mind is your party theme, because your invitation will be the recipient's first impression of your party. Also, consider the amount of guests you will be inviting, most people would prefer not to have to hand write over eighty invitations. With a little creativity and thought your party invitations will be great.

I like each of these ideas...in my family, we just call each other on the phone and say c'mon over...but invitations would class it up a notch.
