One fun idea would be to make your food be the local fare of the two opposing teams! For instance if the Eagles were playing, you would serve Philly cheesesteaks and soft pretzels. If the Bears made it in, you could serve Chicago style pizza or hot dogs. Once you find out who is making it that year, do a little search on Google and find some local favorites, and if the city proper does not have any, surely the state will. You can make the food homemade, or just buy it from the frozen section of your nearest grocery store.
A new twist on chips and salsa: spread tortilla chips on a lightly greased baking sheet, sprinkle cheddar over the tops, and broil for a couple of minutes. Dip these hot, crispy, cheesy chips in salsa for a special treat!
Don't forget the football shaped food...many hobby shops will sell a football shaped cake pan/jello mold. You can use them for everything from homemade bread or cake to jello salad or cream cheese and chili chip dip. If you make bread in the pan, slicing it lengthwise would make a fun super sized sub sandwich to share! You could also use football shaped cookie cutters to make cookies or even mini sandwiches to go along with the full sized one described earlier.
You could also make your food all the colors of the opposing teams. A little food color can do some amazing things! Try making some punch and tinting it to match your favorite team. Or how about mixing color into some cookie dough for some cookies full of team spirit! You could even tint some cream cheese, let it set again in the refrigerator, and use it with your favorite dip. How about tinted popcorn balls? You are only limited by your imagination!
So when Super Bowl Sunday rolls around again...don't be caught with the same old living room eats... surprise your buddies with some snacks that will keep them going back to the kitchen every commercial break!
