Creative Gardening Tips Using 2 Liter Plastic Bottles

Don't Toss Them, Use Them!

Soda is a popular drink that most people enjoy on a daily basis. I know I do, but I hate throwing out all the plastic bottles that are left behind. The good news is that you can keep some of these bottles to help out in your garden. These are some of the creative gardening tips that I have found with using 2 liter plastic bottles.

Creative gardening tips using 2 liter plastic bottles: Shield plants from weed killers

Take a clean 2 liter plastic bottle and cut the bottom end off with a pair of heavy-duty scissors. Take the top portion of the bottle and place it over the weeds in your garden that you want to spray.

Place the nozzle of the spray that you are using to kill the weeds into the neck of the bottle and spray. This keeps the weed killer in a controlled area while you spray, leaving your healthy plants unharmed.

Creative gardening tips using 2 liter plastic bottles: Easy watering for your melons

Take a clean 2 liter plastic bottle and cut a two-inch diameter hole in the bottom. Next you need to drill a one sixteenth-inch hole in the cap of the bottle. Now you will plant the capped bottle upside down into the middle of the melon hill.

About every four days, fill the bottle full of water by placing your hose in the hole. If you need more saturation for the melons, before planting the bottle, drill additional holes in the top rounded portion of the bottle to allow more water to escape.

Creative gardening tips using 2 liter plastic bottles: Help seedlings grow

Take a clean 2 liter plastic bottle and remove the label wrapping. Drill some drainage holes in the bottom of the bottle, and cut the bottle in half with some heavy-duty scissors. You can use the bottom half of the bottle as a planter for your seedlings.

You can also cut the bottle from the side to use as a planter for you seedlings. Lay the bottle on its side and cut a three-inch wide hole along the side of the bottle. You will need to drill holes on the other side of the bottle to allow for drainage.

Using these tips, you can keep those 2 liter plastic bottles and make good use of them for your garden. You will save money on expensive planters and save time from going to the store to purchase them. Time and money saved, what is better than that?

I don't drink soda, but I have used old almond/soymilk cartons as plant starters before.
