The Many Uses of Paper Towels!

Dina Montgomery
Every household today most likely has paper towels; they are very useful for day to day living. Use them to wipe up spills, to clean, and to use them for napkins for meals. But paper towels can be used for several other things also, they are not just for the house, you can use them in your garden as well. Here are some of the things that you can use paper towels for to help you in your garden.

Creative gardening tips with using paper towels: Control cutworms

If you are having a problem with cutworms feeding on your plant stems in your garden, you can use the empty cardboard tubes from the rolls of paper towels. You will need to cut the tubes into two-inch sections, and then slide these sections over the young plants. Make sure that you push the section of tubes about one inch into the soil to protect the young plants from the cutworms.

Creative gardening tips with using paper towels: Remove the silk from an ear of corn

You can effortlessly remove the silk from an ear of corn by first shucking it, and then with one single stroke, wipe it from the top to the bottom with a dampened paper towel. It works great and you won't have to spend extra time picking at all the silk strings.

Creative gardening tips with using paper towels: Revitalizing flowers

Use paper towels to help revitalize wilted flowers. All you need to do is add a few ice cubes to the water in the vase that the flowers are sitting in, and cover the flowers with a paper towel that is dampened with cold water. This simply trick should bring your flowers back to life.

Creative gardening tips with using paper towels: Drying Herbs

You can use paper towels to help dry your herbs faster. For the larger leaved herbs, such as mint, basil, and sage, you will want to first remove the leaves from the stem. Then you need to place them in a single layer on top of a paper towel. For the shorter leaved herbs, you will place the entire stem on the paper towel and allow it to dry. After they have dried, then you can strip the leaves from the stem.

Additional household tip with using paper towels

I use this trick all the time to keep my heads of lettuce fresher longer. I take a dampened paper towel and wrap it around the head of lettuce. Then I place the head of lettuce in a Ziploc Storage BagĀ® and store it in the refrigerator in the vegetable crisper. This will keep it from browning and going bad for quite some time.

These are great creative tips that you can use today and get the most use out of your paper towels.
