Creative Gifts for Writers

Gifts to Give the Writer in Your Life

Susan Sonnen
Oftentimes, as is well known, writers are a reclusive lot. Many writers tend to be a bit on the private side, sometimes making it hard on the eager gift giver to know what to choose for him or her. Set your fears aside! Here I provide you with some creative ideas for gifts that the writer in your life will love. I know; I'm a writer!

Writerly Charms/Cufflinks

Depending on their sex and style, consider giving the writer in your life jewelry that says, "Hey! I'm a writer!"

For women, charms in the shapes of things like ink pens, feather pens and typewriters are a great idea for a gift. They can either add the charms to their charm bracelets or wear them on a chain as a pendant.

For men, cufflinks of a typewriter design are a fabulous choice.

Writing Course

Good writers know that they must continually hone their craft. Paying his tuition for a writing course, whether on site or on line, is a gift that will be appreciated more than you might realize. It would be wise to ask your writer friend to choose a writing course that he would be interested in taking rather than risking signing him up for one that he neither needs nor wants.

Prepaid WiFi Cards

It is almost stereotypical, but there is some truth to the idea that writers enjoy working in coffee shops and diners. But those places are only the tip of the iceberg. For every writer, there is a get away that allows them a step away from the desk while still permitting the time and space to write. Prepaid WiFi cards are priceless to the writer.

Laptop Bag

Few, if any, are the writers who use a typewriter in this day and age. A laptop computer is the standard tool of most writers. Laptop computers require laptop bags for safe transport and storage. Find a laptop bag that expresses your author friend's personal style and taste. If you cannot choose, give the writer a gift certificate to purchase a laptop bag.

Bookends

Many writers do research and have shelves and desks that are overflowing with books to help them in that arena. Bookends not only serve a purpose for the writer, but with all of the gorgeous and eclectic styles of bookends, they also offer a touch of beauty and class to the writer's office.
