DIY Craft Pillows

Making decorative Halloween pillows is actually much easier than you think. This is an in-depth tutorial how to create your own Halloween themed pillows by hand. These are for decorative purposes that can be used on your living room couch or in the guest bedroom for those who stay over during the fall season. All this requires is a little imagination and the supplies listed below. However, feel free to improvise as this is your project and there is no "right" way to make your own Halloween pillows.

Materials Needed:

Iron-on printable paper

Printer

Website with Halloween graphics

Bandanas

Polyfil

Sewing machine or fusible web tape

Iron

Any extra decorative items (such as sequins, pom poms, googly eyes, hot glue gun, etc)

Step 1:

The first step in making your own pillows is to get two bandanas. It would be a good idea to get them with a Halloween theme. However, you can also just go with a solid orange, black, white or any other solid color. If you choose to sew these, place the bandanas front to front and sew 3 of the 4 sides. The fourth side should be sewn about half way. You'll then reverse it to get ready for the sequential steps. If you choose to use the fusible web tape, do the same steps as above, except the bandanas are back to back and do not need to be reversed after fusing.

Step 2:

The next step involves heading online and finding a site with Halloween graphics you like. Suggestions for websites are Avery.com, Sxc.hu and Wikimedia Commons. Here you'll find free photos and images at your disposal. Once you find a few that you like, resize to the size you need for your pillows. Print on iron-on paper. Iron on the pieces to your bandana. You might want to use a piece of thick foam in between the two bananas to avoid getting heat on the other piece. You can then continue decorating in any fashion you choose. You can put googly eyes on your cat or glitter glue on your witch's hat. You are only limited by your imagination and remember, next year you can always do something different.

Step 3:

The last step involves stuffing the pillow with Polyfil. Stuff in the corner you left open in the bandanas. The easiest way to close up the hole after stuffing is through sewing by hand, with needle and thread. Finally, you're done and can decorate your home with your new, homemade pillows!
