    I have not seen the contests 'rules', I am probably DQ anyway. If they are strict then the 18 syllabic content will really DQ you (which deprives them of one beautiful entry). Others have stuck to the 17 syllabic quantity but have not observed the 5-7-5 traditional per line meter (I saw 5-6-6 arrangement). By the way, I am writing "haibuns" for the fun of it, you might want to critic some. thanks!

    Thank you all for your comments! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately it looks like I might be disqualified due to a last-minute word change: I changed the first word of the first line to "Royal" at the last minute because I wanted "blooms" in the second line (I think at first it was "Innovations bloom") ... which made the first line 6 syllables. Whoops. Technically "traditional" Japanese haikus are only 5-7-5 in Japanese, not English, so maybe they'll have mercy :)
