Creative Ideas for Celebrating Mother's Day from Miles Away

Kristina Jones
Mother's Day is a day to recognize one of the most special people in our lives. It is easy to find ways to celebrate Mother's Day when you live close by, but how can you celebrate the holiday when several thousand miles separate you? I have provided some creative ideas which could spark a tradition between you and your mother.

Picture Collage

A picture collage would be the perfect gift for your mother. You should include pictures of both of you. If you want to be really creative, you could make it into a book with a new collage representing each year. Your mother will be sure to love this gift, especially if she does not get to see you more than once or twice a year. Here is what you will need to get started:

Pictures of you and her

Scissors

Glue stick

Stock card (lighter colors would be perfect for the spring holiday)

A nice scrapbook or photo album with large pages

Markers

Now that you have these items, all you do is mount the pictures onto stock card and bond them with the glue stick. Then you can cut them out in shapes with the scissors. Once the pictures are cutout, you should mount them onto the scrapbook pages. Give each page a creative title which reflects the pictures on each page. Once you are finished, wrap the book with a beautiful ribbon and you have your beautiful picture collage book to give to your mother on her special day.

Fruit of the Month Club

Another idea to show you care about your mother is to buy her a fruit of the month club membership. This is a great way to make each month special for your mother. She will know each month that you care about her. If you want to make it even more special, you could buy yourself a fruit of the month club membership and you could enjoy the fruits together even though you are hundreds of miles a part.

Create Your Own Book of the Month Club

This is a great way for you and your mother to bond together even though you do not see each other very often. You do not even have to join a commercial book club like "Oprah's Book Club." You could just send your mom a great book or two each month of your choice. You both can read the book and discuss it daily or weekly via email or phone. This would be a great way to reconnect and make those telephone calls even more special.

Before starting your book of the month club, try to find out what genres and authors your mother enjoys reading. By knowing exactly what types of books she likes to read you can place yourself on lists for when the newest books will be released. This would be a great present for the mother who loves to read the latest books.

Buy a Web Camera

A web camera is the perfect gift for a mother who is either computer savvy or just learning her way around the computer. If you already own a web camera, it is the perfect way for her to bond with you even though you are far away. The web camera may make her feel as if you both are together and will allow both you to see each other on a more frequent basis. This is an ideal gift for those mothers who are already grandmothers and do not have the opportunity to see grandchildren very often.

No matter how far you and your mother live, you can make this Mother's Day a special day by giving a gift that will last year round. Instead of flowers, try out one of these ideas and see how much you and your mother will have bonded throughout the year. Even though we live hundreds of miles away we can still make sure Mom is treated the best on her special day.

I love the ideas! Even though my mother lives about 6 blocks behind us, this would still be better than buying her something. Great job!

I miss my mom. My sister always says I'm vain because I give my mother photos of myself every holiday. Vain I may be, but photos are my favorite present to receive.
