Starting with your St. Patrick's Day menu, you will want to keep thing authentic with Irish recipes and tradition. Irish soda bread and corned beef and cabbage are two things that will please your festive St. Patrick's Day crowd. Mashed potatoes and parsnips and a lamb stew with mint are both crowd pleasers for any Irish celebration. Scones and a good Irish coffee are a great way to end a St. Patrick's Day meal. Fill in the gaps with creative ideas. Any foods that are green or can be turned green are great St. Patrick's Day foods. Green Jell-O, Shamrock shaped cookies, or nice green punches are fun ways to add color to a St. Patrick's Day celebration.
For a sit down dinner, you can create the most beautiful St. Patrick's Day setting with just a few simple touches. The key is to use things you already have around your home. If you do not have a green tablecloth, you can use a sheet or just a piece of green fabric to bring festivity to the table. On top of the tablecloth, place a white table runner with a nice crystal bowl filled with fresh green apples. A pedestal bowl works the best with is not necessary. White placemats and green cloth napkins are a great extra touch but not necessary if you do not have them.
Many creative touches can be printed right from your computer. Place cards or nametags can add an extra touch if you are having a large party where people do not know each other. You can make cards with facts behind St. Patrick's Day and the traditions behind it and place them around the room. This will help spark conversations and remind everyone how St. Patrick's Day came to be and why we celebrate it today.
These little touches can add to your party and make you the hostess with the mostess. Just do not forget to add your pot o gold at the end of the rainbow and the green beer. A St. Patrick's Day party without green beer is like a Christmas with out a tree.

Post a CommentVery good! For me, nothing beats a good old plate of corned beef and cabbage (with mustard!) and finding a four-leaf clover on St. Patrick's!

Good ideas...being Irish, I like!!!
After you mentioned the food, I can't wait for the corned beef
MMMMMM--Corned beef and cabbage!!! Great ideas. :)
Actually, I did an article on the "Irish" tradition of corned beef last year - and it was actually a permutation of a Jewish tradition after the massive influx of the Irish into New York City in the 19th Century! Love the article!
That last line was cute, even though I'm not a fan of beer. Anything about green wine? Ok, maybe that would be grotesque.
