Creative and Inexpensive Gift Idea for Mother

My eldest son, Brian, had a dilemma. Mother's Day was coming up and he wanted to get gifts for his wife, her two sisters, both mothers and his grandmother. The three sisters had five children between them and he wanted his gift to be special and unique. It also had to be an inexpensive gift for the mothers.

He wandered through the store isles trying to come up with the perfect gift for all of the mothers. When he wandered into the craft section of the store, he came up with an idea. Being the type to explore an idea of a gift for mothers before he jumped right in, he asked another customer what she thought of his idea for a gift for all the mothers. He explained his idea and was shocked when the woman's eyes filled with tears.

Just to be sure it was not a fluke, Brian approached another woman and explained his situation and the idea he had for gifts for all of the mothers on his list. This woman's eyes also filled with tears. About that time, her husband came around the corner of the isle. Seeing some strange man talking to his wife and her crying, the man began rolling up his sleeves. As he was about to pummel my son, his wife instead slapped him, "Why didn't you ever do something so thoughtful for me?"

Brian could not believe his eyes as the man's face turned red from more than the stinging slap the woman had given him. He quickly apologized to them both and walked away as the embarrassed husband stammered a response, "I never thought of it."

Brian gathered up paper, craft paints, self-sticking decals and box of crayons. His total cost was less than $20, but he knew he had come up with the perfect idea for a gift for all of the mothers on his list.

When he arrived home, he corralled the five kids, a digital camera and enlisted his sister's help; glad she was not on his mother's day gift list as well. After cleaning up the kids and combing their hair. He and his sister managed to take pictures of each child. The brother and sister then worked to dip each child's hand and foot into the paint then leave impressions on the paper and clean up the child before grabbing the next. The children were ages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 years old. I can just imagine how difficult it was for him and his sister to get through it all.

While he waited for the paint to dry, he printed out small pictures. When the paint had dried, he had each child draw pictures and used the stick on decals to decorate the hand and footprints. He said, "I wanted the kids to put as much of themselves as possible into the gifts for their mothers."

He then glued the small pictures and used a marker to put the date, child's name and birth date on each of the gifts.

All of the mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmother cried over their inexpensive, yet priceless, gifts. They now had a permanent snapshot of their little ones preserved for all time. The gift my son came up with was a hit with every mother on his list and something we mothers will treasure forever. I cannot believe I raised such an intelligent young man who could touch six women with their mother's day gifts.
