Creative Iron Man Halloween Costume for 2009

Adam Hefner
For what you would have to pay for a department store Iron Man costume, you can get away with spending only a fraction of the price by creating your own costume by following the information outlined here. Not only is it fun and effective, but lets you really get creative. This article only serves as a guideline, so if you don't like the way something looks or cannot find a specific item - improvise!

First off, you will need a battery operated touch light. You can find these at just about every dollar and department store. This will be the main focal point of the costume. If you look around you should be able to find a yellow jumpsuit that fits somewhat loosely. If you can find a white one, you can always dye it. Muscle man suits work great also if you can find one cheaply at the costume store. Next up are the arm-bands and leg-bands. These can be achieved by cutting arms from a red sweatshirt or the ends off of socks. You will also want a red pair of underwear - worn backwards on the outside of your suit. Make sure you get them a few sizes big or you will be walking funny!

To complete the look you will want to add other clothing in to the suit so that it looks as if you had bulging muscles. Be sure to compensate with a sports cup and additional chest padding to complete the look. Don't forget to attach the light to your chest with either velcro or duct tape. If you are feeling extra creative, you can place some clear colored plastic wrap around the light for a better effect.

The only thing missing now is the mask and the chest protector. If you can find a roman style armored chest protector and paint it red and yellow, this is your best bet and looks awesome with the light embedded, if not you can use the sweatshirt you cut the arms from earlier. If you cannot find a mask that is modifiable with a bit of paint to look close enough, you could even wear a false bald head and paint your head yellow. Add a red triangle that wraps around the back of your head and ends above your eyebrows, and don't forget your red ears! Now get out there and start saving the world!
