Creative Methods of Decorating a Bedroom with Posters

Kids of all ages love posters of their favorite celebrities and subjects, but they are not just for children and teens. Absolutely anyone can decorate a bedroom with posters that are not wrinkled, creased or misshapen. Not everyone can spend hundreds of dollars on wall decor, and posters are great when decorating a bedroom on a budget. They can be grouped and varnished or aged for a vintage look.

Decorating accessories were not in my budget when I moved into my first home. I had to shop at garage sales and flea markets, and I had to come up with homemade wall art if I wanted something truly unique. In the good old days I had to seek out creative methods of decorating with inexpensive items such as posters. I found a way to decorate my bedroom with beautiful floral posters, but I did not simply tape them to a wall.

Begin by Ironing Away the Creases

Problems with posters include lines, wrinkles and creases. When they are not properly stored, they can end up permanently damaged. Before using any decorating method that involves creased, crinkled or wrinkled paper, warm up your iron. Gently iron wrinkled or creased posters on a very low setting. If the fibers of the paper are not damaged they can look as good as new.

Create a Matte Varnished Grouping on a Bare Bedroom Wall

When decorating a bedroom with posters I did not want to use tape. I made sure the wall was smooth, and I tried something unconventional. I used wallpaper paste for a more permanent design. I carefully smoothed out the bubbles by hand until they were completely flat. They were beautiful floral posters, and I randomly overlapped the edges and corners.

After the wallpaper paste dried, I carefully applied painter's tape around the borders. To give my paper work of art a more exquisite look, I applied acrylic matte finish using a wide craft brush. I removed the painter's tape after the finish had dried. My floral posters no longer looked like cheap paper prints. They looked like a stunning works of art on my bedroom wall.

Age the Paper for a Vintage Look

I decided to use two more posters to finish my bedroom decorating project. They were embellished with beautiful vases of blue forget-me-not flowers and baby's breath, but the paper looked far too shiny and new for my bedroom with old fashioned style. I decided to age the paper before mounting them behind coordinating vintage frames. I moistened an ordinary tea bag with cool water, and I rubbed it over both posters until achieving the desired effect. After the paper dried I used small bits of poster putty to attach them to the center of a bare bedroom wall. I mounted two vintage frames over the posters. They beautifully highlighted the posters while completing my decorating scheme, and all on a shoestring budget.
