Police Halloween costumes are all the rage these days. However, you don't have to get the same police costume that everyone else is wearing. There are several different types of police uniforms that would make a great Halloween costume. You can take advantage of several different American police uniforms to create your costume, or look to other countries such as England or Canada for inspiration.

Creative SWAT Police Halloween Costumes and Accessories

Get a black shirt or jacket and pants to use as the basis for your SWAT police Halloween costume. If you prefer, you could also get a green or gray and white camouflage shirt and pants. Also find an assault vest and a riot helmet. You may be able to find these items for cheap through a military surplus store. Get some white iron-on letters from a craft store. Iron "S.W.A.T" onto the front of the assault jacket. Also get an iron-on United States flag patch, and iron it onto the upper arm of the jacket. If you like, you can also wear knee and elbow pads over your costume. Add black combat boots and a prop rifle to make your SWAT costume complete.

Creative FBI Halloween Costumes and Accessories

To start making an FBI Halloween costume, find a black or navy blue nylon snap-up jacket and matching pants and shoes. Get some iron-on or adhesive letters in yellow or white. Place the letters "FBI" on the back, upper arm and left chest of the jacket. Get a baseball cap in a matching color and place the letters "FBI" on it, as well. Find a pair of aviator sunglasses, a pair of toy handcuffs, a pretend bullet-proof vest or tactical vest. If you like, you can also print out an FBI badge and ID card on your computer.

Creative Police Officer Halloween Costumes and Accessories

To create an American police officer Halloween costume, get a short sleeved navy blue shirt and a matching pair of pants. If you prefer, you could also get a tan shirt and pants or shorts. Get a black belt, a holster, a name badge, aviator sunglasses, a navy blue police cap and a police or American flag iron-on patch. Attach the flag patch to the upper arm of the shirt. Get two policeman's badges; one to go on the right side of the shirt and one to go on the cap. An alternative is to get a baseball cap to go with your police officer costume. Get a police patch to iron onto the cap. You could also wear a navy blue tie with your shirt. Carry accessories such as a prop gun, a baton, a walkie-talkie and prop handcuffs. Also consider looking to cop shows such as CHIPS, Adam 12, Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue for inspiration on police officer costumes.

To make a English bobby police Halloween costume, get a navy blue jacket or tunic with silver-toned buttons and matching pants, a bobby's police helmet with an emblem, a baton and a whistle on a chain. Add a navy blue belt and shoes. Place a cloth band with navy blue and white vertical stripes on the end of each sleeve.

Creative Royal Canadian Mountie Halloween Costumes and Accessories

To make a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Halloween costume, get a red tunic with a black band collar and gold-toned buttons. Attach some black epaulettes and Canadian Mountie badges to the shoulders of the tunic. Also attach badges to the collar and outer arm of the tunic. Also find a tan Stetson hat with a dark band, brown gloves, a brown belt, a vinyl pistol holster, black riding breeches and brown Strathcona boots. Attach the holster and at least two other vinyl pouches to the belt. Sew a yellow band of trim onto the outside of the leg of the breeches.
