Creative Rainy Day Activity: Table Town

A Simple Creative Activity that Any Kid Can Do!

Rainy days for kid's can lead to boredom, complaints and everyone in the house feeling grumpy. A good way to thwart this from happening is to come up with creative fun rainy day activities that can keep kids occupied for at least an hour. Since I have 2 little boys living in my house we come up with activities that revolve around the toys they own. These happen to be Lego's and Matchbox cars of which there are an abundance in my home. One of the fun rainy day activities we came up with was Table Town.

Table Town was created because I needed something to keep my kids busy and only had a few items on hand. To create table town on a rainy day you will need enough paper to cover the dining table, masking tape, crayons, Lego's and Matchbox cars. This is a great time to recycle used paper as you can use the back or you can even substitute markers for the crayons and use the back of wrapping paper.

The only thing mom has to do is to tape down the paper to the dining table after removing the table cloth. You can do this at a coffee table too but a dining table is often bigger which leads to a bigger town. Once the paper is taped in place it is time for kids to create a town.

Since I have 2 kids I had one draw roads while the other drew in buildings. The matchbox cars could then be driven on the roads to the different buildings. Some of the buildings became made out of Lego's. Letting the kids get creative with Table Town let them explore their imagination. It also gave me a few hours of no fighting and simple brotherly camaraderie.

Table Town was a creative rainy day activity that we came up with on the spur of the moment and probably one of the most fun activities we have done. Try making a Table Town the next time you are stuck inside and boredom gets the best of you.
