Creative Solutions for Common Sofa Problems

Solving Your Sofa Problems!

Dina Montgomery
You love your sofa but not necessarily the way the cushions slip and slide around or how your sofa seems to be a pet hair magnet. These problems and more can be easily fixed with some simple and creative solutions for common sofa problems.

Making the cushions stay put

I can't tell you how annoying it is to have a sofa with cushions that keep sliding around and refuses to stay in place. To keep this from happening in the future, simply place some of that rubberized mesh (the type that you use to line your cabinet shelves) right underneath the sofa cushions.

Another solution to this problem is to apply some heavy-duty, self-sticking fabric tape to the underside of the sofa cushions. Place about 2 to 3 strips of the fabric tape to the underside of each cushion as well as to the sofa itself. No more sofa cushions slipping and moving around.

Removing pet hair

One of the easiest ways to remove pet hair from your sofa is to put on a latex glove (the type used for medical work) and run your hand over the sofa. The latex will cause the pet hair to clump and makes it easier to pick up. You can usually buy a box at a discount store or a pharmacy store for a relatively low price.

Another solution is to get some packaging tape and place strips of the tape all along the sections of the sofa with pet hair. Simply apply the tape, press firmly and peel back. All the pet hair will come up with the tape leaving a hair-free sofa.

Removing stains

An easy and inexpensive way to remove most stains from your sofa is to use a mixture of baking soda and about one tablespoon of club soda. Mix the baking soda and club soda together until it forms a paste. Get a clean, soft cloth and gently rub the paste into the stain with the cloth.

After rubbing the paste in well, take the clean, soft cloth and run it under warm water. Ring the cloth out well till it's damp, and wipe the paste from the sofa. You can use your vacuum cleaner to remove any excess residue left from the paste.

These solutions for the most common sofa problems are simple and inexpensive. Instead of replacing the sofa or spending a lot of money on cleaning products, try these solutions today and you will happy you did.
