Creative Treatment Ideas for Small Windows

Scott Kessman

The main function of windows is to enable fresh air to be brought into a room but from the inside of a home small window treatments can alter the whole effect of a room. Even the smallest of windows can add character if a certain amount of imagination is used. Many people do not appreciate this and their windows look awkward and out of place in their homes. When designing the interior of a room, its windows should become a major part of the design, with plain walls and colored curtains a room can be made to look warm and inviting.

A small window treatment can enable a window to look wider if the curtains can be pulled back and the whole window is on view. The use of panelling can also have the same effect but it does not have to stop there; blinds and drapes can be used not just for privacy but as an addition to the décor of a room even if drapes do not function, they can add color and atmosphere to any open space.

Stained glass windows have been used for many years and are a very impressive small window treatment. They have never ceased to enhance the overall appearance of great buildings; this effect can be brought into the home and there is a simple cost effective way of obtaining it. By using colored plastic sheets cut to a required design and adhesive lead strips, this effect is easily acquired. The natural light coming into a room through different colored designs on the windows can give a room extra brightness.

So the best thing to do is to make use of all the windows in your home by making them a feature instead of seeing them as just a way of bringing light and air into the home. By making use of blinds, curtains, shades or shutters you can make the best of your home and take advantage of the many options of small window treatments available to make your windows stand out and become a focal part of your home.
