Creative Visualization: The Mental Screen

R. Bourne, Ph.D.
Creative visualization is a powerful technique based on viewing what you want with your imagination, believing you can get it, and actually getting it. Once you learn how to relax, the next step for creative visualization is to learn how to use images with powerful intent to obtain what you wish. I have written an article about the technique of relaxation. Go to my page if you wish to learn about relaxation.

If you close your eyes you "see" darkness. But if you leave your eyes closed a little bit longer you will experience that dark side within your head and between your eyes where you will start projecting images. This "dark space" will be called from now on the mental screen.

Before using the screen technique you need to relax as you probably have learned already. After you have relaxed concentrate on that dark place between your eyes and in front of them where you will be shooting your images (the mental screen).

Start with a simple object: an apple. See its red color (or maybe its green color). See its shape, its irregularities. Feel as if you have an apple there, you can even smell it. Imagine all that. Try to do it as vividly as possible. The more vivid you do it the better.

Now imagine a lemon. Project it in your mental screen. Again see its yellowish color, the roughness of the skin, its color shades on its skin. Try to smell it, even to taste. Does it taste good? Feel how your mouth is watering at this point. This is the mental screen technique working on your body, your imagination working.

One word of caution:

When you start using the mental screen technique you may start to hearing a little voice inside your head saying that this is not worth doing. This is your untrained mind trying to sabotage your technique. Concentrate and focus on the technique and you will prevail.

After you have practiced with simple objects go for more complex ones, for example a car. Let suppose you wish a new sporty car. Imagine it in your mental screen. Imagine its color, the model, feel how it is that fells driving it, the pleasure you are getting from it, feel the wind in your cheeks as you race the car thru your local road going home. See it and you will have it.

Project anything you wish in your mental screen. Project images of health, abundance, and happiness and as Yogananda once said:

"The whisperings of the mind causes a dynamic force that transforms the physical matter in what we wish. If we believe in something-intensely-- the mind will materialize it"

Yogananda words are very intense. It plainly states that whatever we believe we will get it. Creative visualization is a technique that involve the process of imagination, visualization, and ultimately creation of our reality. What we imagine for ourselves (good or bad) is what we get. This is the basis of creative visualization.
