Creative Ways of Celebrating a First Birthday: Party Ideas

Elaine
It's getting closer to the big day for your little one, and you have hundreds of thoughts going through your head about what to do first. I know it is sad to think that in a few more weeks your little bundle of joy will be turning 1. You have mixed feelings of sadness because they grow up so fast and happiness because they are learning and experiencing new things. Parents can sometimes be overwhelmed when it comes to planning their baby's first birthday party so I want to help give you some ideas to begin planning your baby's special birthday.

I think of a baby's first birthday at home beginning celebrated with Mom and Dad, brothers and sisters, and other close family relatives. A party at home is safe for little ones and it also makes it easier for parents to keep up with their children. Write drown a list of all the people that are close immediate family and friends that would want to be apart of your baby's first birthday party. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who were there when your baby was born also want to be there for this special first birthday celebration.

I would work on creating a menu that is easy for small children to eat without too many messes. Do prepare for the unexpected spill to occur since it will be babies at the party. I would prepare a wide range of finger foods including chicken nuggets, potato chips, fruits, veggies, pudding, etc. Of course have cake or cupcakes, ice cream, and fruit punch. No chocolates or extra sweets are needed since you have cake.

Next, you want to decide on a theme that expresses your baby's interests or favorite colors. I was recently at a 1 year old party where the mom did a first birthday theme along with Winn the Pooh and it was adorable. Balloons everywhere and a huge bouquet tied to the baby's high chair along with party hats and party horns. The colors were bright and full of cheer. Children love themes, balloons, and bright colors like yellow, red, and blue. It is fun to also give the party guest favors that match the theme like goody bags and personalized treats that they can take home with them.

Plan the party for the mid-afternoon maybe around 2 or so. Just try to plan a time after lunch and nap time so that the babies will not be cranky. Keep the party short for only an hour or two since babies tend to get anxious and restless after a while and can become irritable. Expect to hear the crying, fussing, and loud noise since it is for babies and toddlers, but usually guests will not mind the extra noise. Maybe they will get a laugh out of it!!

With a theme party, finger foods, presents, lots of babies, and relatives it is sure to be an exciting birthday party full of surprises!! Don't forget to take lots of pictures especially when your baby eats his or her first piece of birthday cake!!

The author must not have any kids... Party at 2pm??? Kids that age usually nap at that time. Also, they do not yet eat cakes unless they're made from pureed veggies.
