Creative Ways to Decorate a Dining Room with Bird Cages

Unique Decorating Options for a Wood or Wire Cage

Bird cages can be practical and used for housing birds, and they can be quite decorative. The ornamental variety is not designed for holding live birds of any type, but they can be absolutely gorgeous in a dining room. They are especially lovely in a space with French provincial, elegant or quaint cottage style. In any case they are easy to decorate in eye catching new ways.

My great aunt Eleanor had a beautiful formal dining room, and the decor that stood out the most was a set of ornamental bird cages with distressed French style. The bird cages alone were lovely, but it was the way in which my aunt chose to decorate the pieces that made a difference. They were on her dining room buffet in front of a north facing window, and it was the ideal location for growing miniature ivy.

Decorate Bird Cages with Live or Faux Ivy

The ivy my aunt used to decorate her beautiful metal bird cages thrived in the diffused natural light. The small vines and lobed leaves grew in and out of the rungs, and they added to the distressed aged look of the enclosures. The cages appeared to be very old, and the vines seemed to take them over like long forgotten garden decor. They were planted in shallow moss-covered clay planters that she artfully designed, and they were ideal in her dining room.

Create Unique Battery-Operated Candle Holders

I do not have enough natural light in my current home or enough extra space for decorative bird cages filled with plants. Although I loved the way they looked in my aunt's dining room, I had another idea. I purchased smaller decorative bird cages and used them to hold battery operated pillar candles to decorate my dining room buffet. They made highly unique candle holders for my cottage style dining room.

Use Beautiful Bird Cages to Display Faux Birds

I have several faux birds made from various materials including cast resin, crystal, wood and ceramic. I have also sculpted birds using polymer clay. My collection came to mind when I began seeking new ways to decorate a dining room with bird cages. Decorative wire enclosures provide a fantastic way to display particularly valuable or eye catching bird figurines. I would love to use two small cages to protect and hold my crystal birds. They would look beautiful suspended from clear thread, especially in a sunny location where the facets would catch the light.

Search for images of decorative bird cages when looking for additional ways to decorate a dining room. They can be filled with blooming flowers, and they can also be used as a place to clip vintage photos. The options for using decorative bird cages to decorate a dining room are only limited by the desire to create a artistic imagination.
