Curtains
The first thing that you are going to want to do is decide which type of curtain that you would like to have. Depending on the size of the window and the type of curtain that you want to make you will then select how much fabric you will need. Here is an easy way to do it. Measure your windows length and width. If you like a lot of gathers in your curtain then you are going to add another ½ to your width. For example, if your window is 20 length and 20 wide then you will buy fabric that is 20 inches in length by 30 inches in width. If you have never done this before when you get to a fabric counter tell the cutting lady what you need. She will make sure that she gets you the right cut. Next comes the fun part. You are going to want to make some hems on your curtain. If you do not know how to sew you can buy fabric glue. Make hems on all sides except for the top. Make sure that there are no raw edges. You can do this by folding your fabric under twice. Just make little hems. Either sew the ends or use fabric glue. Next we are going to do the top. This is the place that the rod will go through. You will make a larger hem at the top. Make sure to make it large enough so that your rod can fit through. When you have finished you will have an apple curtain. If you are the type of person that likes to have two curtains on one window just repeat. You may want to cut down the width of your curtain if you do this though.
Kitchen Decorations
Basket
This is a really fun craft to do. Take some fabric and cut out the apples. Buy a pretty basket; whatever type that you would like. Go to a craft store and ask for fabric stiffener. Apply your fabric stiffener to your apple and let it dry. Once the apple is dry you can glue it onto the basket. Next you are going to make a pretty bow for your basket. Cut a piece of fabric that is about 4 inches longer than the length of your handle. The width of the fabric should be about 6 inches. Apply the fabric stiffener to the fabric. While it still wet fold your edges to the middle so that they will not show. Do this on the ends as well. Apply some more fabric stiffener. You want the fabric to stay wet. Form a bow for the top of the basket and let the sides of the bow dangle down on the sides of the basket. Glue the bottom of the bow to the basket. Let it dry thoroughly. When the fabric is dry take and cut the tails of your bow into an upside down V shape. Do this on both sides. You now have a beautiful apple basket for your kitchen.
Light switch cover
Take a light switch cover and measure a piece of fabric that is a little bit larger than it. You are going to decoupage the fabric to the light switch cover. You can do this by purchasing a product called Modge Podge at your local craft store. Once you have the Modge Podge you are going to apply it to your fabric with a paint brush. All it takes is a little paint brush. Once it is wet you are going to place it onto your light switch cover. Bend the ends of the fabric under the cover so that they do not show. Apply another coat and let it dry. You now have matching apple light switch covers.
Pictures for your walls
Find some more fabric with different patterns of apples. Go to your local craft store and purchase some wooden plaques. They aren't too expensive. They are usually under $5. Take your fabric and cut out shapes or pictures as you would like to put on your plaque. Apply Modge Podge onto your fabric and place it onto your plaque. Be creative. You can also paint around the border of the plaque.
With the craft store there are unlimited ideas because there are little glues and applications that many of us have never heard of. There are so many more things that you can make for your apple themed kitchen. How about magnets for your refrigerator or decorate a spoon holder. The ideas go on and on. I know that you are going to have fun decorating your kitchen. Just be creative!!!
