A large room with a swimming pool is a dream for many homeowners. It provides a place for exercise, but it can also become an exclusive space for entertaining. Friends and family can enjoy an invigorating swim year round, even on the coldest days of the year. A room with a pool is also a fabulous place to recreate a tropical theme. It can become an indoor oasis with outdoor flair when you choose to decorate it with resort style decor.
I knew a family that had a room with a swimming pool, and it was an amazing space. The owners of the home asked me to help decorate the room in creative ways that would give the space the look and feel of an island resort. I was happy to fulfill their wishes and share my ideas. Find out how I chose to decorate my friend's swimming pool room, and use some or all of my ideas to create your private indoor sanctuary.
Give the Room a Warmer Look with Cedar Planking
The swimming pool room that I helped decorate was originally finished with ordinary drywall. It had been painted with mildew resistant primer and moisture resistant paint, but it cheapened the appearance of their beautiful home. They wanted the enormous space to have a warmer look, and they were willing to spare no expense. I suggested cedar planking. They chose to decorate the walls and ceiling with beautiful cedar planking, and it completely changed the appearance of the space. Their swimming pool room looked like something I had envisioned in a high end resort, and they were thrilled with the results.
Decorate a Swimming Pool Room with Plants and Tropical Decor
After the new cedar planking was in place and the workers were ready to move items back into the swimming pool room, I suggested buying and adding an array of tropical plants and decor. They loved plants, and this was the ideal space to grow them since one wall was almost all glass. The family chose about one dozen tropical plants as well as new planters from a local garden center. The planters we chose were brightly colored, and some were embellished with contemporary renditions of beautiful jungle birds.
In addition to the large tropical plants, I helped the family select and order tropical wall decor to decorate the walls of their gorgeous swimming pool room. They selected huge metal wall sculptures in a tropical theme, and we decorated around each large piece with smaller coordinating accent pieces.
The space went from plain and impressive to extraordinary and absolutely amazing. The homeowners ended up adding a tropical bar with a thatched roof and new furnishings with tropical island flair. It became a resort within their home, and I attended many events and parties in the swimming pool room that I helped to decorate and transform in stunning new ways.
