Creative Ways to Decorate a Wedding Arch for a Themed Wedding

If you've ever attended an outdoor wedding, you've probably witnessed the wonder of the wedding arch. The 8-foot fixture has a way of transforming any setting, making it the go-to décor for an outdoor wedding. In addition to the elegance that a well-decorated arch can offer, its placement can help complete a wedding ensemble. Plus, arches don't discriminate-the relatively inexpensive décor can compliment any wedding, no matter how small. While the decision to include the arch was an easy way, finding creative ways to decorate it may be another story.

Creative Ways to Decorate a Wedding Arch

If you're this far in, you've likely already settled on a theme or at least have an idea of the color scheme you want to include in your wedding. Keep this in mind when settling on an idea-your wedding arch should complement your theme, not distract from it.

Colored Gauze for a Bohemian Feel

After flowers and garland, gauze is the most popular arch decorating material. Many elegant arches have featured yards of soft, white gauze. Forego tradition by selecting colored gauze or silk to weave between the wedding arch. If the rest of your ensemble will be relatively mild, another creative way to spruce up your arch is using a patterned fabric, such as one with a bohemian print.

Colored Lights for a Gothic Look

If colored gauze doesn't sit right with you, stick with white, but weave colored lights around the frame. One creative way to spruce up a gothic wedding arch is to weave black and red lights through white gauze. Zebra print sashes, spider webs and black or red roses make great accents and are much more subtle than bats or skulls, allowing you to make the point, without going over the top. Or forego the gauze and lights altogether and create a black and white balloon arch.

Creative Accents for a Boudoir Style

For the bold bride looking to present a boudoir style, colored feathers are a creative way to transform a wedding arch. Weaving vintage garters through lace or gauze is another easy way to add just a touch of racy to your retro or boudoir style wedding. Pair it with soft purple or blue lights for an elegant touch.

I wanted an outdoor wedding. Unfortunately, if you want a Catholic wedding, it's in a church. Sigh! But these were great ideas.
