Creative Ways to Use Mirrors in a Small Foyer

Decorating with mirrors opens up many possibilities, and in more ways than one. Not only are mirrors useful, but they are also highly appealing and extraordinarily stylish. When properly placed they can visually expand the size of a room, especially a small foyer. Try these creative ideas for decorating a small foyer with mirrors, and give it a boost in size as well as style. Even the most unassuming entryway can look rich and exquisite, and mirrors can be used without creating a funhouse effect. Read on to find out how.

Mount a Large Mirror on a Wall Across from the Entryway Doo

One of the easiest ways to decorate and enlarge the appearance of a small foyer is with wall mirrors. Select a stylish framed mirror of the appropriate size, and mount it on the wall directly across from the entryway door. This will be the first thing that people see upon entering the home, and it will help create an illusion of space in an otherwise small area.

In addition to a large mirror, consider selecting a set of candle sconces or wall pockets to mount on both sides. Fill your wall pockets with colorful faux blooms, and fill candle sconces with battery-operated flickering candles. Not only will this display help to visually expand a small foyer, but it will also add style and immediate visual appeal. It will make a grand first impression, no matter the size of the foyer. Absolutely any home can look and feel like a castle. I chose wall pockets filled with forget-me-not flowers, lacy fern branches and baby's breath for my small entryway, and it looks absolutely amazing.

Use Long Narrow Mirrors in a Foyer that Lacks Sidelights

Sidelights that surround an entryway door let in a tremendous amount of light. When the foyer lacks sidelights it can be a little dark and far less impressive than it could be. Do not leave guests in the dark. Faux sidelights can be created using long narrow mirrors. Securely attach decorative framed mirrors to the wall on one or both sides of the main door to the home. This will provide the look of sidelights but without costly remodeling. They will reflect all sources of light in the small foyer and create an illusion of natural illumination and size. It is possible to remodel without cutting away walls and cutting into your budget.

Make a Narrow Foyer Appear Wider with Mirrors

The walls of a small narrow foyer can be visually pushed out with the help of wall mirrors. To make a narrow foyer appear wider than it actually is, mount two mirrors of the same style and size on opposite sides. They will create an illusion of space since they will multiply reflections and available light. It does not get any easier than this when trying to make a small space appear wider and larger.

In addition to mirrors, bathe your small foyer with light. Upgrade light fixtures and use LED lighting instead of incandescent bulbs. Also, keep it light. Do not paint the walls a deep, dark hue. This will make it look more like the entryway to a small cave. With mirrors, adequate lighting and good color choices, it can look far larger than it really is.

I performed an audit at an upscale apartment complex recently. One of the things they did is brought back the mirrored closet doors. While I have never been fond of this while feature in homes, the decor and way in which the apartment was organized and decorated made me want to rush out an buy mirrors, mirrors and more mirrors. Great ideas Crystal.
