Billboards - Sure, billboards have long been used to spread PR messages, but the way that you use the billboard is what makes it unique. Google, famous search engine and company, used a billboard to screen applicants for a job. They placed a mathematical problem on the billboard, with the characters '.com' after it, so that when individuals discovered the answer to the problem, they were led to a website. That website also contained a problem and those who discovered the answer were invited to submit a resume. While you're probably not looking for creative ways to hire someone, using creative methods like this to advertise is a great idea.
Demanding User Interaction - Hubba Bubba, the bubblegum company, was faced with two problems. They wanted to advertise their gum, and they also wanted to deal with individuals throwing their gum out on the street. Nothing is more disgusting than stepping in a big wad of chewed and sun-baked bubblegum. So what did they do? They created huge 'paint by numbers' posters with different pictures on them, and asked users to fill them in with old gum. Rather than putting the gum on the street, the gum was used to color the pictures. Sure, it's pretty disgusting but it's certainly creative and made individuals take notice.
Making the Brand or Message Memorable - When one thinks of creative advertising, Absolut Vodka often comes to mind. This company has pushed the envelope when it comes to memorable advertising. The Absolut Vodka bottle has been formed in lemon zest on a grater, it has had it's skirts blowing up like Marylin over a grate, it has had bite marks from Dracula, and just about everything else under the sun you can think of! This company knows the meaning of making the brand and the message memorable. If you can make individuals remember the brand, you're doing something wonderful.
Social Media - Integrating social media into your advertising is a must these days. Everyone uses social media websites, and companies who can take advantage of that can really make a difference in profits. One thing many companies are doing is approaching blog owners for giveaway offers. It's simple. The company sends the blog owner a product to try and review - the blog owner reviews it and offers his or her readers the chance to win one of their own through contests. This is a huge way to get products recognized, especially if the blog owner is a trusted individual.
No matter what kind of advertising you're doing, it should be turning heads. If people aren't noticing it, throw it out and start fresh, because it's not doing the very thing it's supposed to be doing!
