Creative Ways to Turn Photos into Wall Art

A wall covered in framed photos can appear overdone, especially if the pictures and frames are all different sizes, styles and colors. The arrangement ends up looking like a mess instead of something eye-catching and stylish. In other cases people hang framed photos in a hallway where they are ignored for years. First of all, a hallway is not the best place to hang pictures of any type. Secondly, the space is usually far too narrow for proper viewing. Framed photos do not usually add style to a room, but when they are displayed as wall art, the method should highlight the subject rather than detract from the display.

Create a Unique Picket Fence Background

It takes more than pretty frames to turn photos into wall art. I have visited homes with entire walls covered in framed photos, and the displays were not the least bit impressive. In other homes, old photos of kids took over hallway walls. The pictures were special to the owners, but they were garishly outdated and ineffectively displayed. They end up looking like the walls that time forgot. I chose to turn my old photos into stylish wall art instead.

I purchased a rustic budget picket fence that was comprised of narrow pointed pickets and connected by wire. Since the wire was flexible it enabled me to add shape to my wall art display. I did not attach the fence squarely across the wall. I made the center and one end higher than the other to give the wall art dimension. After the fence was mounted on the wall, I attached favorite photos using small amounts of poster putty. I overlapped some of the pictures, and I did not cover the entire fence. I successfully turned photos into wall art that looked fantastic over the living room sofa. It was colorful and visually interesting.

Unique Family Tree Wall Art

How about creating a very unique family tree? A good friend created a work of unique wall art using a large branch. It was a very creative idea. She came up with a great way to turn photos into wall art that looked far better than ordinary framed pictures.

Begin by selecting a dead limb with dozens of smaller branches. If desired, attach silk dogwood flowers or another bloom using hot glue. Attach the branch securely to a bare wall. It should hang as flat as possible. Add frameless family photos using low temperature hot glue or poster putty. A simple branch can be turned into a work of art and a real family tree.
