Those that love to garden are usually thrilled to receive a gift they can use outdoors, especially if it involves their hobby of choice. It might be as simple heirloom tomato seeds or as extravagant as a fountain. In any case, it is fun to wrap the gift in a creative and eye catching way. The best wrap of all is something that can be used for another purpose.
I always try to wrap themed gifts with something other than paper unless I know it will be recycled or reused. My mother loves to garden, and she always appreciates receiving a themed gift for any occasion. Even though she recycles, I use a creative way to wrap each gift. I enjoy coming up with a different technique every time. She never knows what I will give her or how I will present it, but she finds a use for every garden gift and wrap she receives.
Use a Clay Pot, a Saucer and Raffia to Wrap a Small Garden Themed Gift
One of the most creative ways to wrap a garden themed gift is with a clay pot. Buy a terracotta planter of the appropriate size along with a clay saucer that completely covers the top. The base will be used as a lid. Line the clay pot with craft moss, coconut fiber or shredded tissue paper. Place the garden themed gift inside, and top the clay pot with the saucer. Combine three or four long strips of colored raffia, and wrap it around the base and over the top. Tie it securely, and wrap another set of raffia strands up and around the other side to make a crisscross pattern. Top the garden themed gift with a matching paper twist bow. The creative wrap as well as the liner can be reused in countless new ways.
Present a Garden Themed Gift in a Lined Hanging Wire Basket
If a clay pot is not the ideal wrap for your garden themed gift, consider a lined wire basket. Buy a wire basket designed for hanging along with a coconut fiber liner. Place your garden themed gift in the basket, and be sure to tuck in the chains. Surround the basket with clear or colorful translucent cellophane, and secure the top with a paper twist bow. A lined wire basket could be used to hold packets of seeds, small garden implements, gloves and anything else that will fit inside. I used this method to give my mom a seed packet assortment, sheers, a handheld rake and a gift certificate for her favorite garden center. She loved it!
Anything garden related that can hold other items can be used as creative themed wrap. A plastic tote or even a fertilizer spreader can be used to hold gifts. Absolutely anything can be surrounded with cellophane. It comes in all sizes, and it can be secured with a colorful bow to put the finishing touch on a garden themed gift for the gardener on your list.
