Creative Wrapping Ideas for Guys

Gift wrapping can be every guy's worst nightmare. From sticky tape on their fingers to awkwardly crumpled corners on a package, gift wrapping can be the scariest part of purchasing and preparing a gift for their significant other. However, with the proper instruments and mind set, gift wrapping really shouldn't be such a dreaded task.

First of all, to keep gift wrapping clean and crisp cut, always do preliminary measurements of the package you are choosing to wrap before you actually start cutting out the wrapping paper and taping it down. This will save you a lot of hassle and prevent you from realizing half way through the wrapping job that your square of cut out wrapping paper is far too big or much too small. Once you have figured out the size of the sheet of wrapping paper that you need to cut, use a sharp pair of scissors to smoothly slide along the wrapping paper and cut it out. You'll want to try just sliding the edges of a sharp pair of scissors along the wrapping paper (make sure that you are cutting with the grain of the paper and not against it) instead of using the regular scissoring/chopping motion of cutting paper. This way your cuts will be smooth, without the chopping look that regular paper cutting usually results in.

Secondly, a good plan to help out with the overall cleanliness of the project is using double sided tape. This little miraculous invention is not only fun to use, but it also keeps all of the wrapping tape hidden away from the viewer, thus resulting in a cleaner looking final project. If you can't use double sided tape, then try the old fashion trick of folding a piece of normal tap back around on itself in order to make a sort of circle (with the sticky side facing out). This will work just like double sided tape in hiding away the tape in a wrapping job.

Finally, always remember that creative wrapping can make up for a mildly poor wrapping job. One of my favorite ways to creatively wrap a gift is to use newspaper. Newspaper is extremely affordable and works great as wrapping, since overlaying it in order to lengthen it does not look tacky. To spice up a newspaper gift, trying creating a newspaper bow with looped strips of newspaper on top of the present. If your gift is not in a box that such a bow could be conveniently placed upon, try cutting thinner strips of paper and curling them around a pencil, imitating the look of curled wrapping ribbon.
