Creativity

Justin Woods
Creativity has been here since the beginning of man, some religious people might even say it's been here way before that. From a biblical sense I can say the nature of creation started with God and his idea to build the world we live on along with the creation of the rest of the universe and beyond. From a scientific stand point I can say it all started with the big bang and the origins of life from a single celled organism swimming about in a rapidly forming, life supporting Earth.

Who's to say? What we can all agree on is that if it weren't for "creativity" we would be living in a very different very un-up to date world. Just look at how far technology has come, rising from the ashes from the caveman living in the Stone Age. From his invention of the wheel, to his systematic exercises of gathering crops for the harvest, to making tools to hunt for food for his family and tribe.

Creativity has always been here, not only with humans but also possessed by animals alike, after all creatures and wild beasts have been here way before the creation or evolution of man. Before ever took his first footsteps on earth creativity was here.

I am a strong believer in the advancement of man, but with quick and steady progress I feel there needs to be some accountability held. Looking back in time to WW1, WW2 and the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, see where I'm getting at? Sometime when it comes to creativity man can get extremely destructive and having less of a value for life. With technological advancement come military advancement and the ideas and theories to kill off more people "enemies."

To break it down a little further, earlier I stated that creativity not only lies with us but with animals as well. But what sets up apart from animals it that their instinctive creatures, who are unable to listen or comprehend reason. We have the ability of free will, and are actually able to think ahead and see where or how our actions will lead us. In all our advancements I believe man still has a primitive trait that will never been dissolved or evolved further, it will always be.

A writer, Betty A. Velthouse wrote an article "Creativity and empowerment: A complimentary relationship." She goes on to discuss the similarities between both creativity and empowerment and how they in some ways go hand in hand. She also goes on to add that the organizational need of the American industry doesn't focus on technology, strategy, culture, or even leadership, but individual contributions. Betty Velthouse has a point, before organization, industries and corporations, before it is our government. It all starts with individuals; it isn't the government who enforces the law but the people within the government, the individuals who make up whatever they are a part of.
