Creator of Universes

Mario V. Farina

Often I sit in front of the fireplace
and watch the flames devouring the logs.
I value this time as periods of meditation.

When did time begin? When did everything begin?
What happens in black holes? What is dark matter?
Why is the speed of light a definite number?

These and other questions envelop my mind.
I stare at the flames.
From time to time there's a pop and a shower of embers.

Yes, there was a bang, I think.
It was like one of those sparks from the fire.
That spark was like our Universe.

But our Universe was only one amidst a myriad of others,
Each created and lasting but a brief second,
Then fading with a faltering glow.

There may have been millions of such universes.
Nay, thousands of millions, maybe millions of millions.
Maybe zillions.

Those pops I hear, those flashes and flickers I see
could be like new universes being created
so long as there is fire in the fireplace.

My mind conjures a vastly larger and far more eternal fireplace.
My mind dwells upon the Person or Entity that started and stokes
the fire that burns so fiercely.
