Crest Whitestrips Classic: Review

Phillip Chan
When it comes to teeth whitening strips and products, I am generally pretty hesitant to try out a just any product that comes out. However, I heard and read several good reviews of Crest Whitestrips Classic, and I decided to give them a shot. After trying them for several weeks, I'm happy to report that they appear to do their advertised function quite well.

Supposedly Whitestrips Classic will make whiter teeth after 5 days, and are the "#1 dentist recommended brand", according to the box statements. The box set I got was the "14 day" formula. It came complete with 56 strips, 28 for the upper teeth and 28 for the lower teeth. Crest was even nice enough to add little "satisfaction guaranteed" if, after 14 days, your teeth were not "noticeably whiter."

Crest Whitestrips come as strips and are applied to your front teeth. Don't plan on getting your back teeth whitened by these strips, as they do not reach back that far. A larger strips is used to cover the top teeth, and a small strip for the bottom teeth. There is a slight adhesive gel that helps the strips attach to the teeth, I think it consists of whatever bleaching chemical they use. Also, I found it helpful to bend the top/bottom portion of the respective strip over my teeth, as it aided in keeping it in place.

The strips are designed to be left in place for 30 minutes, and this is to be done twice a day. Supposedly, one will see results within 5 days, which turned out to be definitely true. After using them for several weeks, I had friends remark about how different my teeth looked.

However, these strips were not without issue. I felt an odd tingling sensation in my teeth after a few uses, and this was quite uncomfortable. I also noticed an odd white dot on my teeth, but this disappeared soon. The manual for Crest Whitestrips mentioned that there might be white dots, but that the user shouldn't be alarmed by them-I certainly was! Finally, it was sort of difficult to apply the strips in the beginning, something that irked me at first. I did get used to them with a little practice, but it was annoying in the beginning.

In the end, I stopped seeing any problems with the strips. I didn't use them as regularly as suggested, but I still had positive results. Crest Whitestrips are affordable, easy to use, and quite comfortable. I would recommend them to anyone looking into purchasing a whitening product.
