Crime in Fort Greene Area Worsening
Neighborhood: Fort Greene, Brooklyn
New York City, NY 11205
United States of America
The crimes reported in The Brooklyn Paper's Police Blotter for the Fort Greene area (10/3 to 10/12) are worse than they have been in weeks.

Frequency is average, 14 crimes in 10 days, but severity has increased in violence and gun usage.

Oct. 12 - Murder - Terrell Canty was shot dead in the street (Classon and Lafayette Aves) at 8:30 a.m. A suspect, Tareen Brown, has been arrested, reports the NY Post.

Oct. 6 - 7th - Three gunpoint stick-ups in the afternoon

-- 10/6 - A 15-year-old held up a teen on the LIRR at 5:00 p.m.

-- 10/7 - A man held up a woman on Lafayette between Washington and Classon Aves. at 4:40 p.m.

-- 10/7 - Two thugs held up a man near Emerson Place and Myrtle Avenue at 3:00 p.m.

Oct. 5th - Three teens beat a teen on Fulton and Cumberland Sts. for his iPod at 6:10 p.m.

Oct. 6th - A man threw a brick through a car window with the owner sleeping inside of it at 4:15 a.m.

Oct. 9th - A thug assaulted a woman for her purse on Gates and Classon Aves. At 2:40 a.m.

Half, seven, of the 14 crimes reported were violent. Four involved guns. All, but one, of the crimes were committed during "safe" hours. This is a bad sign. The criminals are brazen. They lack fear of the law.

The seven non-violent crimes were:

10/3 - Empty deli robbery overnight

10/5 - Pickpocket on the 3 train at 7:15 p.m.

10/6 - Smashed car window and theft at 1:00 p.m.

10/6 - Cell phone snatch on the street at 1:15 p.m.

10/7 - Dog-napping for ransom at noon

10/8 - LIU locker lift at 10:30 am

10/10 -- Phone grab on the 4 train at 12:12 a.m.

Note the reasonable hours of all but two of these crimes.

Stay safe, till next time.

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit.  View profile
