Criminal Negligence by Course Directors in Colleges and Universities

How Careless and Insensitive People in Responsible Positions Can Be?

It has become fashionable for some course directors in colleges and universities to show off their clout in the most antisocial way.

And if it is a new appointee, you can bet there can be turmoil for the wards too.

How about this scenario:

You selected courses weeks in advance for the new semester. There were no restrictions at that time.

Then without your knowledge - of course, there is no law that you should be informed about it - the institution changes the course director.

The new director decides he or she should impress the employer with own knowledge and prowess.

And with only days for the new semester to commence, the new person starts changing the syllabus and the prerequisites.

The students, not knowing the drama, comes to the college, only to hear that they can't attend the classes they registered for.

Usually, there are no relevant or alternate courses for the students to take, the seats have been filled by that time.

The whole drama is pointless, as countless students have already done the same courses before the new director arrived on the scene with newly-found knowledge.

At least, have the decency and sensitivity to inform the students by email in advance that the curriculum has changed so that they can look for alternatives.

Don't tell at the twelfth hour when students come to attend the classes with great expectations.

Teachers should not think they are gods who can create havoc in their students' lives like that.

Time is precious and wastage of months in a student's life means an equal loss of earning period in his or her lifetime, retirement age remaining more or less same.

No wonder, alumni of such careless institutions with insensitive teachers too become careless and insensitive later at work, leading to loss of money to the employer, and even loss of lives among the general public.

Because that is what they saw their teachers doing to them.

Colleges and universities should not think that their only job is just using students as inanimate conduits to divert government grants and educational loans.

After all, students are the ones who repay those loans spread over their useful lifetime, that too in an environment with no job security, not they.

Promotions and new teaching jobs don't mean just showing off to the employers, it also means educating the wards with exemplary lessons to be fruitful, caring citizens of the society.

Stealing months off the student's earning life thus is criminal negligence, even when done by people who have masters and doctorates.
