Critical Bill Showcase Local Music in 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Show

Tracy Heck
Thanksgiving night in Mt. Clemens has always meant a big concert at the Emerald Theater.

For years local star Uncle Kracker graced the stage and for the last three years Mt. Clemens' own Critical Bill have made the show their own and made it a free show for their fans.

Each year the show features some of the best local bands and this year's lineup was a wonderfully ecletic mix of great bands.

Kicking off the evening was alternative rock band No Resolve who throw a little bit of all of their numerous influences into their music creating a unique sound all their own.

Up next was the Christina Criss band who opened the show last year and have since started making quite a name for themselves.

The band's mix of gritty rock and roll and pop sensibilities can't help but make you sit up and take notice.

Christina Criss has a versatile voice that easily moves across the entire spectrum often within the same song and the entire group seems to be having a lot of fun on stage.

The band can be found playing a show at Albert's on the Alley in Garden City every Thursday night.

Metal band Lithium have opened for everyone from Papa Roach and Static-X to 2 Live Crew and Insane Clown Posse and they manage to fit in no matter where they are at.

During their set Thursday night, they sounded equally at home playing a soft ballad as they were during their heaviest songs.

The Band With No Name (BWNN) are another band that were on last year's bill and have played with Critical Bill a number of times in the past.

BWNN are known for their hard riffs and beautiful melodies and have gained the attention of the local radio stations with their songs playing on Windsor's 89X, Detroit's WRIF and Flint's Banana 101.5.

Their set Thursday featured a number of songs off of their last album Humanity including the hard hitting track "I'm Your Enemy".

However, it was their opener "It's Alright It's Over" and it's infectious chorus that really stood out.

Psychopathic Records' own Anybody Killa (ABK) went on before Critical Bill to the delight of the packed Juggalo crowd waiting to see him.

Unfortunately, his set was pretty short ending with him exiting the stage in a odd manner leaving the crowd chanting his name and confused.

However, even though the set was short ABK once again proved why he is one of the best and most unique rap artists around.

He performed a few songs off of his new album Medicine Bag including "I'm Comin' Swingin'", which had the crowd jumping along.

Finally, it was time for the main act and once again Critical Bill went all out featuring grinning skulls wearing Santa hats behind them and coming out to Christmas music before they burst into the rocking "All American Psycho".

The band always draws crowds of all ages and no matter the age everyone was on their feet and moving along throughout the show.

Critical Bill mix of rock and rap transcends well live and they have become one of the best live Detroit bands.

The band moved through all of their biggest songs including "This Is Critical", "The Ride" and "My Suicide" and brought out popular covers "Move Bitch" and "Jump Around", which per usual featured the band bringing up a number of female fans to close out their show.

The evening was a great way to spend the holiday and a great way to catch up on what the Detroit music scene has to offer.
