Crochet Community Websites

C. Phillips
Crochet has come a long way since you watched your grandma working up toilet paper doll covers. The resources available at online crocheting communities are enormous compared to what it used to be. If you want to find a place where you can join the growing number of crocheters that share their ideas, projects, and concerns, than here are a few places to check out.

Crochetville.com

Crochetville is probably the most well-known space on the web for crochet-lovers. This set of forums has a lot to offer beginners and experienced crocheters alike. You can get help on patterns you are working on through the "Help Clinic" thread; here you can ask basic questions about crochet or ideas on how others work with specialty yarns and new techniques. There is a place to share your finished projects and gain the admiration of your fellow friends at Crochetville, and also a place to post original patterns. If you are an aspiring designer, you can ask questions on how to get published and work your way up the social latter. For those that would like to learn how they can earn money by selling their crochet projects, can look in those threads for ideas on how others do it.

One of the best features of the site is the Crochet-a-long (CAL) threads. These threads allow you to connect with other crocheters around the world who have similar interests in projects and work on them 'with you.' You can post your works in progress, and when you get into trouble in the pattern there is a community to consult with. Crochetville makes it easy to connect with people of similar interests and just have fun.

Crochetme.com

Crochetme is another great community for crochet-lovers. Many people post their original patterns here to share with their crocheting friends. It is run like an online magazine with an email newsletter, tutorials, and a forum.

You can find tutorials for different stitches used in the patterns on the site, and detailed pattern instructions. Most designers post pictures of their works in progress so you can have easy reference along the way to see if you are moving in the right direction (too bad they don't have that for print patterns!). You can post comments or questions under the patterns if you get into trouble and receive advice from the designer on how to fix mistakes or corrections in the pattern.

Crochet pattern central

Crochet Pattern central has been a consistent stand-by for online crocheters. Here you can find an extensive listing of free patterns found on the web (the site links directly to each of these patterns), including wearables for adults and children, toys, winter wear, Afghans, and kitchen crochet. If you are a designer you can submit your designs for the free pattern database. The site links to other helpful websites, and offers a place for crocheters and knitters to find and share helpful tips for working with yarn projects.

These crocheting communities are an invaluable source for avid crochet-lovers to get together and continue to enrich others through one of the greatest needlecrafts.
