Crochet Easy Chain Stitch Team Spirit Shoelaces or Shoestrings

Show Off Your Team Spirit with a Pair of Brightly Colored Shoelaces!

Maria Merlino
This is a super simple beginner pattern that uses only one stitch, the chain! The chain is the first thing you learn how to do. I like to use the worsted weight cotton yarn, like Sugar and Cream or Peaches and Crème.

This pattern is perfect for children. I remember when I first leaned how to crochet, I must have made miles and miles of chains, but I had no clue as to what to do with them. Now you can make a very useful article, shoelaces! Some people also call them shoestrings.

Show your true colors with a brand new pair of shoelaces that you crocheted yourself! This pattern is trouble-free. There is only one stitch used, the chain stitch. I used a self-striping yarn in patriotic colors, but try making each lace in a different color for more kick. Can't decide what color you like? You could also make one shoe lace one color and the other another color,

Materials: Lily Sugar and Cream Stripes 100% cotton 4 ply yarn

5 yards/6 meters per shoelace or Peaches and Crème Cotton yarn.( you get many pairs of shoelaces from one ball of cotton yarn)

Crochet hook size F/4mm

Transparent adhesive tape to make the clear tips of the shoelaces

or alternately, you could use nail polish for the tips either clear or a color.

Scissors

Gauge: 50 chains = 10 inches

INSTRUCTIONS

Make 2

Row 1: Making a nice tight chain, with F/4mm hook, and leaving a 2 inch tail, chain 165. Fasten off leaving a 2 inch tail. Your work should measure 36 inches. If you want a longer shoelace, make additional chains before you fasten off. Measure the shoelace that comes with your sneaker for a more custom fit.

FINISHING

Cut a 2 inch piece of transparent tape. Stating at the bottom of the slip knot, wrap tape around cut end for an inch to form a tip. Cut excess yarn. ` Repeat on other side. Alternately, you can paint nail polish on the cut ends. Let dry and cut ends an inch long.

Enjoy you new laces!
