Crochet an Easy Ruffle Scarf This Winter

Cyndee Kromminga
I find crocheting to be an inexpensive and relaxing craft that can easily be picked up or put down in a moments notice and wintertime sparks all kinds of ideas for crochet. The warmth of yarn can be hooked into the coziest slippers, most fashionable scarves and the warmest hats and mittens. This lovely crocheted ruffle scarf can be completed in an evening and would make a wonderful last minute gift for Valentine's Day, a birthday, Christmas or a just-because day. One regular size skein of 4-ply worsted weight yarn is more than enough to complete one scarf. This crocheted ruffle scarf makes a beautiful fashion accessory and with just a few wraps around the neck, becomes a cozy neck warmer against the cold.

Materials Needed:

One skein of 4-ply worsted weight yarn

Size J crochet hook

Finished Size:

2 1/2 inches wide by 54 inches long

Stitch Guide For Stitches Used:

Chain-Yarn over, pull through the loop on the hook.

Single Crochet-Insert hook in the stitch, yarn over, pull through the stitch, yarn over, pull through both loops on the hook.

Double Crochet-Yarn over, insert hook in the stitch, yarn over, pull through the stitch, (Yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 2 times.

Treble Crochet-Yarn over 2 times, insert hook in the stitch, yarn over, pull through the stitch, (yarn over, pull through 2 loops) 3 times.

Slip Stitch-Insert hook in the stitch, yarn over, pull through loop on the hook.

Steps:

Chain 150

1. Turn. Double crochet in fourth chain from the hook and in each chain across.

2. Turn, chain 4. Treble crochet twice in the same stitch as the beginning chain 4. Crochet 3 treble crochet in each double crochet across the row.

3. Turn, chain 2. Single crochet in next stitch. Chain 2 and single crochet in each stitch across the row. At the end do not turn.

4. Working on the end of the scarf, crochet 3 single crochet around the last treble crochet post, 2 single crochet around the double crochet post and a single crochet once in the corner. Single crochet on the unworked side of the beginning chain and across the row. Working in the end of the scarf, 2 single crochet around the double crochet post and 3 single crochet around the treble crochet post. Slip stitch to the beginning of row 3. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Note:

A stitch guide is not important with this project, as it is not relevant to a size. Add or decrease the beginning chain to lengthen or shorten the finished ruffle scarf.

If making multiples of this ruffle scarf, two regular skeins of 4-ply worsted weight yarn will make three ruffle scarves.
