Crochet Pineapple Stitch Cape Shawl

For a smaller cape, use a sport weight yarn and an F(4.00mm) hook

Aluminum hook G (4.25mm)

ROW 1: Ch 55 (this is back section of neck edge), dc in 4th st from hook, * dc in each of next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * across (there are 70 dc in row including turning ch which always counts as a dc).

ROW2: Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in first dc on last row, dc in each of re­maining dc, 3 dc in top st of turning ch.

Row 3; Ch 3, turn. 2 dc in same st, * dc in each of next 3 dc

2 dc in next dc; repeat from * across, end with dc in each of 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 3 dc in top st of turning ch (there are 96 dc in row).

ROW 4: Same as 2nd row (there are 100 dc).

ROW 5: Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in first dc, * dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc; repeat from * across, end with dc in each of 3 dc, 3 dc in top st of turning ch (there are 123 dc in row).

PINEAPPLE SECTION -

ROW 1: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc on last row dc in each of next 2 dc, * ch 3, skip next dc, sc in next dc, (ch 3 and sc) in each of next 2 dc, ch 3, skip next dc, dc in each of next 3 dc; repeat from * across, end with ch 3, skip a dc, dc in each of 2 dc, dc in top st of turning ch (there are 15 patterns or 17 for Medi­um and Large sizes).

ROW 2: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, dc in each of next 2 dc, * skip next (ch 3) loop, work (ch 3 and sc) in each of next 2 ch loops, ch 3, skip next ch loop, dc in each of next 3 sts.

ROW 3: Ch 3, turn, dc in first dc, 2 dc in each of next 2 dc, * ch 3, skip next ch loop, sc in next ch loop, ch 3, skip next ch loop, 2 dc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from * across.

ROW 4: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, dc in each of 2 dc, * ch 5, dc in each of next 3 dc, skip 2 (ch 3) loops, dc in each of next 3 dc; re­peat from * across, end with ch 5, dc in each of end 3 sts.

ROW 5: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, dc in each of next 2 dc, * ch 3, 4 dc in center st of (ch 5) loop, ch 3, work a 2- joined dc over next 2 dc as follows: work (yarn over hook, draw up a loop in next dc, yarn over and through 2 loops) twice, yarn over and through all 3 loops on hook, work (a 2-joined dc over next 2 dc) twice more; repeat from * across, end with ch 3, 4 dc in center st of (ch 5) loop, ch 3, dc in each of end 3 sts.

ROW 19: Ch 3, turn, skip first st, dc in each of 2 sts, * ch 4, skip ch loop, sc in next dc, (ch 3 and sc) in each of remaining dc on same group, ch 4, skip ch loop, dc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from * across.

ROW 20: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, dc in each of 2 dc, * ch 4, skip next ch loop, sc in next (ch 3) loop, (ch 3 and sc) in each (ch 3) loop, ch 4, skip next (ch 4) loop, dc in each of next 3 dc; re­peat from * across.

ROW21-23: Repeat last row 3 times.

ROW24-32: Repeat last 9 rows (from 15th row to end of 23rd row).

ROW33: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, dc in 2 dc, * ch 5, skip a ch loop, sc in next ch loop, ch 5, 2 dc in each of next 3 dc; repeat from

* across, end with ch 5, dc in each of end 3 sts.

ROW34: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, dc in each of 2 dc, * ch 5, sc in sc, ch 5, dc in each of 3 dc, ch 5, dc in each of next 3 dc; re­peat from * across, end as last row.

ROW35: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, dc in each of 2 dc, * skip 2 ch loops, dc in each of 3 dc, ch 5, 4 dc in center st of next ch loop, ch 5,

dc in each of 3 dc; repeat from * across, end with skip 2 ch loops, 1

dc in each of end 3 sts.

Note for row 36: 2 -joined dc st: Yarn over hook, insert into stitch, yarn over hook and pull up a loop, yarn over hook and pull through 2 loops on your hook. There are two loops on your hook; just leave them there for now.

Yarn over hook insert into the next stitch, yarn over hook and pull up a loop, yarn over hook and pull through 2 loops on your hook, yarn over hook and pull through all loops on your hook.

ROW36: Ch 2, turn, skip first dc, dc in next dc, (a 2-joined dc

over 2 dc) twice, * ch 5, 2 dc in each of next 4 dc, ch 5, (a 2-joined

dc over 2 dc) 3 times; repeat from * across.

ROW 37: Same as 19th row but ch 5 instead of ch 4

ROW 36-41: Working ch 6 instead of ch 4, repeat 20th

row 4 times.

NEXT ROW: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, dc in each of 2 dc, * ch 6, skip a ch loop, sc in next ch loop, (ch 3 and sc) in

2 ch loops, ch 6, 2 dc in each of next 3 dc; repeat from * across but end with ch 6, dc in each of end 3 sts.

LAST LONG ROW: Ch 3, turn, skip first dc, dc in 2 dc, * ch 6, skip a ch loop, sc in next ch loop, ch 3, sc in next ch loop, ch 6, dc

in each of 6 dc; repeat from * across, end with dc in each of end 3 sts.

ALL OTHER SCALLOPS - Join yarn with a sl st in next dc on last long row; work as First Scallop.
