Crochet a Raised Hearts Purse

MATERIALS:
Bernat Baby Softee yarn in Lavender and White
Size F hook or hook to obtain gauge
Size 10 Metallic Gold\White crochet thread
Size 7 crochet hook or hook to obtain gauge
Needle to take yarn
Needle to take crochet thread.

Gauge: Bernat: 5 sc sts = 1", 5 rows sc = 1", 5 Fpdc\Bpdc = 1", 3 rows Fpdc\Bpdc = 1", 5 dc sts, = 1", 4 rows dc = 1-1\2". Metallic: 5 sc sts = 1\2", ring is 1" diameter.

Finished Size: 12" across and 13" tall.

Special Stitches: The stitches used to make the raised sts are Front Post dc or Fpdc and Back Post dc or Bpdc. This is a dc worked around the previous row's st instead of in the top of the sts as normally done. In the Fpdc you are working the st by inserting your hook from the front of the piece, behind the previously worked st and then back through to the front, yo and work as established for dc. Bpdc is the same but instead of inserting your hook from the front of the piece you insert it from the back of the piece and then around the previously worked dc and then back through the back, yo and finish working normal dc.

You will be alternating two colors as you work. Due to the special Fpdc and Bpdc you will not be able to work the white yarn behind the sts as you crochet. Simply drop the white, make the raised sts, pick the white back up carefully running it behind the worked sts and continue working. When working the background you can work the pink yarn behind your sts picking up and dropping as indicated.

Purse Strap:

1ST RING: With crochet thread and 7 hook ch-10, sl st to form a ring, ch-1, work 25 sc in ring, sl st top beg sc, fasten off.

NEXT RING: with crochet thread and 7 hook ch-10, insert ch into previous made ring, sl st to form a ring, ch-1, work 25 sc in ring, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn.

Make 2 straps of 20 rings. Sew to ea side of purse.
