Supplies Needed:
4-ply worsted weight yarn, 60 oz.
Crochet hook, size H
Scissors
Step 1
Chain 197. Half double crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each of the next eight chains.
Step 2
Half double crochet twice in each of the next two chains. This will create a peak or an outside angle.
Step 3
Half double crochet in the next nine chains. Skip the next two chains. This will create a valley or an inside angle.
Step 4
Half double crochet in the next nine chains. Half double crochet twice in each of the next two chains. Repeat the pattern across the chain for a total of 198 double crochet stitches.
Step 5
Chain two and turn. Crochet in the back loops, now and throughout the pattern. Half double crochet in the first stitch, skip the next stitch and half double crochet in the next eight stitches. The skipped stitch will pull the edge in, forming a straight edge on the afghan.
Step 6
Crochet a peak in the next two stitches. Half double crochet in the next nine stitches.
Step 7
Skip two stitches to create a valley. Half double crochet in the next nine stitches.
Step 8
Repeat the peak and valley ripple pattern across the row to the last 10 stitches. Half double crochet in eight stitches, skip a stitch and half double crochet in the last stitch.
Step 9
Chain two and turn. Repeat the row, beginning with step five. Continue to add more rows until the ripple afghan measures approximately 60 inches. Knot and finish off the yarn. Weave in the end.
