Crochet: Roll-up Hook Holder

Eloah James
All you need for this project is a skein of yarn, a ruler, and a hook, plus hooks to put in it when it's finished, but stitch markers will be useful also. US to UK conversion chart here.

Make your slip knot and then chain (CH) as many stitches as it takes with your yarn to reach 7 inches long. Place stitch markers (or tie contrasting yarn) on the chain row at 2.5, 3.5, and 4.5 inches. Work a single crochet (SC) into each stitch until you reach the center of the chain row, at 3.5 inches. Here, make a single CH and skip a stitch before working the next SC. Complete the row with SC stitches.

Row 2 Turn the work, CH one and work a SC into each stitch until the end of the row.

Hole Row 1 The holes in HR1 should accommodate hooks up to 3.75mm (US - F/5). Repeatholed rows within the pattern as many times as necessary to hold all your hooks in these sizes. Turn the work, CH one and work a SC into each stitch until you reach 2.5 inches. Slide your hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, but do not complete the stitch. Repeat for the next stitch. Yarn over again and pull through all loops on your hook. This is known as a decrease (DEC1). Work 2 SC into the next stitch. This is called an increase (INC1). Continue crocheting with SCs until the 4.5 inch marker. Complete another INC1, then another DEC1. Continue with SCs to complete the row.

Repeat Row 2 x2.

Repeat HR1.

Repeat Row 2 x2.

Hole Row 2 Row should fit sizes 4 - 6.5 mm (US G/6-K/10.5). SC to 2.5 inches. DEC as before, but into 3 stitches (DEC2). Work 3 SC into the next stitch for INC2. Continue SCs until the 4.5 inch marker. Complete another INC2, then another DEC2. Continue with SCs to complete the row.

Repeat Row 2 x2.

RepeatHR2.

Repeat Row 2 x2.

Hole Row 3 Should fit sizes 7 - 10 mm (US L/11-N/15). SC into each stitch to 2.5 inches. DEC into 4 stitches (DEC3). Work 4 SC into the next stitch for INC3. Continue with SCs until 4.5 inches. Complete another INC3, then another DEC3. SC to end of the row.

Repeat Row 2 x2.

Tie together or sew a button where the hole in the first row meets the back of the piece when rolled.
