Crochet a Soft and Warm Neck Gaiter

For the cold and windy weather of Winter, nothing will keep you warmer than a soft neck gaiter. This neck gaiter project uses super soft and dense yarn for maximum warmth and comfort. And the easy design is a crochet project that anyone can complete.

What is a Neck Gaiter?

A neck gaiter is basically a tube that is worn over the head like a hood and around the neck. The gaiter is necessarily long so that it bunches under the chin and around the neck in the back. It is a very warm accessory to wear in the winter. It stops cold breezes from reaching your ears, neck, or down the collar of your coat.

Materials Needed for the Neck Gaiter

The neck gaiter is easily made with a moderate size crochet hook and a skein or two of yarn. How much yarn you need will depend on the size of your head and neck. Since the crochet neck gaiter is worked in the round, you do not need a yarn needle to sew any sides together.

Crochet the Warm Neck Gaiter

To begin this warm neck gaiter project, you must first make a length of chain stitches in the appropriate length. To make a chain stitch, you start with the yarn wrapped around the crochet hook, loop it over the hook, and then pull that loop through the first one. The chain stitch cord should be long enough to fit around your head. This will be the diameter of the neck gaiter. It will be able to stretch some when going over your head, but it should not be too tight.

Once the chain crochet is the correct length, join it into a loop with a slip stitch. After that, you will be working the crochet in the round. This means that you simply start to crochet and keep going around and around in a spiral pattern until the neck gaiter reaches the correct length. You might want to use single crochet for this project for maximum warmth. Any number of tightly woven crochet stitches are just as suitable.

The neck gaiter should be long enough to start over your hairline at the top of your head, or even further forward on your forehead, and bunch about your neck and shoulders at the bottom.

Crocheting this soft and warm neck gaiter is almost as wonderful as wearing it. With these easy directions, you will be able to complete the neck gaiter in one weekend. It is the ultimate way to keep the cold winter winds off of your neck and head.
