Materials:
Bernat Softee Chunky yarn (100 g/3.5 oz balls), one ball each of Hot Lime and Medium Sea Green (this will make several mats)
Crochet hook Size K
Yarn needle
Finished Size: 7 inches square.
Gauge: 3 sts = 1 inch
Abbreviations:
rnd = round
ch = chain
slst = slip stitch
tog = together
dc = double crochet
Pattern Stitch: Insert hook between first and second stitches horizontally, and bring it out between second and third stitches. Yarn over, pull through, and complete dc.
Rnd 1: With Medium Sea Green, ch 4, slst tog to form a ring; ch 3. Work 11 dc in ring, slst in top of ch (12 dc). Bind off.
Rnd 2: Working in pattern stitch throughout, attach Lime Green yarn around a dc, ch 3. Work 2 more dc in same st (corner), *dc in each of next 2 dc, 3 dc in next dc, repeat from * 2 times, dc in ea of next 2 st, slst in top of ch 3. Slst around center st of corner, ch 3.
Rnd 3: Work 2 more dc in same st (corner), *dc in each of next 4 dc, 3 dc in next st, repeat from * 2 times, dc in ea of next 4 dc, slst in top of ch 3. Slst around center st of corner, ch 3.
Rnd 4: Work 2 more dc in same st (corner), *dc in each of next 6 dc, 3 dc in next st, repeat from * 2 times, dc in ea of next 6 dc, slst in top of ch. Slst around center st of corner, ch 3.
Rnd 5: Work 2 more dc in same st (corner), *dc in each of next 8 dc, 3 dc in next st, repeat from * 2 times, dc in ea of next 8 dc, slst in top of ch 3. Bind off.
Rnd 6: Attach Medium Sea Green yarn around center st of corner cluster, ch 3. Work 2 more dc in same st (corner), *dc in each of next 10 dc, 3 dc in next st, repeat from * 2 times, dc in ea of next 10 dc, slst in top of ch 3. Slst around center st of corner, ch 3.
Rnd 7: Work 2 more dc in same st (corner), *dc in each of next 10 dc, 3 dc in next st, repeat from * 2 times, dc in ea of next 8 dc, slst in top of ch 3. Slst around center st of corner, ch 3. Bind off.
Rnd 8: Attach Lime Green yarn around center st of corner cluster, ch 3. Work 2 more dc in same st (corner), *dc in each of next 14 dc, 3 dc in next st, repeat from * 2 times, dc in ea of next 14 dc, slst in top of ch 3. Bind off. Weave in all loose ends with yarn needle.
