Crocheted or Knitted Gift Ideas for the Holidays

Dee Dee Smith
Handmade holiday items can be very special to give and memorable to receive. If you knit or crochet there are many wonderful gifts you can make for the holidays. Although there are just a few weeks left before the holidays; don't fret, there are several items that both the novice and advanced artisan can still make.

Crocheted Or Knitted Gifts For Women:

Knitted or Crocheted Dishcloths - Store bought dishcloths can in no way compare with knitted or crocheted dishcloths. Handmade dishcloths are sturdier, last longer and are great for scrubbing. Give them as gifts in sets of 3-4 tied together with ribbon. Or, for a more substantial gift, combine dishcloths in a basket with a couple of bottles of elegant dishwashing liquid.

Keepsake Bags - There are many free patterns available for cute keepsake bags. These bags can be used to hold cosmetics, jewelry, coins or credit cards.

Hair Accessories - Headbands, barrettes, scrunchies and bandanas are just a few simple hair accessories one can make for holiday gifts. Make matching sets (i.e. headband and scrunchie), or preent the gift in a handmade keepsake bag.

Leg Warmers - Made popular by movies like Flashdance, leg warmers are now back in style. These will make great gifts for the younger woman or teen on your gift list.

Crocheted Or Knitted Gifts For Men:

Champagne/Wine Bottle Cover - Give him a bottle of his favorite champagne or wine, but make it a very personal gift by covering with a crocheted or knitted cover. These covers also help to keep the beverage cool.

Cozy Socks or Slippers - Knitted/crocheted socks are extremely warm; consequently, they make an awesome gift for the outdoorsmen. Knit/crochet slippers in his favorite team colors or using green or brown camouflage yarn.

Crocheted Or Knitted Gifts For Children:

Hats and Mittens - Everyone knows that kids are forever losing their hats and mittens. To help with this problem, my mom will periodically knit several hats and mittens for my niece and nephew. These are kept in a box in the foyer, and the kids can grab them on the way out the door. Knit or crochet several hats and mittens. Use various patterns in multi-colors for the hats, and use solid colors for the mittens. This way the hats and mittens compliment one another and don't have to be paired together in sets so to speak. Give the gift in a storage bag, basket or other container. This will make it convenient to store the hats and mittens near the front or back door. Sure the kids will thank you, but mom and dad will also appreciate this gift.

An Outfit For Baby Doll or Barbie - Are you looking for a really memorable gift for the little girl in your life? Knit/crochet a few outfits for her barbie or baby doll. For an added touch, knit or crochet a vest or sweater for her using the same yarn. She will be proud to have a matching outfit for her and her favorite doll.
