Crocheting: How You Can Leave a Legacy for Your Children

It's Never Too Late

Kathy Anderson
Crocheting is not only a craft but it is an art. The basic stitches are easy to master, and once you master them you'll be on your way to creating some beautiful pieces that'll make you proud. Wouldn't it be wonderful to make something for your family that can be cherished long after you're gone? You can share your newfound skills with your family and friends in such a loving way. They'll love it, I guarantee it!

Anyone can learn to crochet and will have many hours of relaxing creative time ahead of them. First, all you need is the desire to learn. Then, you can head down to the big craft store on the corner and select your "Learn How To Crochet" kit. There are many kits at your craft store to get you started. And what's nice is, they come with all the equipment and tools you'll need to learn and create that special something. Are you excited yet?!!

These kits are great because not only do they come with the proper hook size and yarns the pattern or patterns included in the kits will need, but these kits are an excellent way to give you that confidence you need to start. These kits will also keep the cost of learning something new down to a small amount because you are not having to buy several different sizes of hooks and several different yarn weights. Patterns all have all this information for you when you're ready to start a project after the kit project has been accomplished. All patterns have to have a small piece worked into a swatch to determine the gauge before you begin. This will tell you what size needle works the swatch at that gauge indicated on the pattern.

The possibilities are endless. You can crochet everything from toys to sweaters in no time flat. Besides toys and sweaters, you will be mastering afghans and home décor items like doilies and tablecloths. How about baby bibs and even baby clothes? There are so many different items you can crochet. Crocheted snowflakes for your Christmas tree, sweaters for your best friend's new baby, and maybe some warm and cozy slippers for every member of your family are some ideas. This past year, I felted some wool slippers that turned into very heavy warm slippers that I made for the whole family. Excited yet?!!

Don't forget the Internet for lots of helpful information on learning how to crochet and learning new techniques and tips. There's lots of blogs and web sites with patterns and yarns you can purchase. You'll find almost everything you need on the Internet! That means you don't even need to leave your house and can even shop and do research in your pajamas! You're just a click away. Now with fuel prices, this is the only way to shop.

So now give it a try. It's never too late and you're never too old.
